Former Sonics forward Shawn Kemp wasn’t impressed by the stunt that won the dunk contest for Los Angeles Clippers rookie Blake Griffin.

“I’m a big Blake Griffin fan, but that dunk at the contest might have been the weakest dunk in the dunk contest that I’ve seen in a long time,” Kemp told KJR’s Dave Mahler and Ian Furness on Wednesday. “I love the choir and all that stuff was great, but you at least gotta jump over the car though right.”

Griffin jumped over the hood of a car, taking an alley-oop pass from Baron Davis out of the sunroof and finished with a two-handed jam while a gospel choir sang “I Believe I Can Fly.”

“I’m 41 years old and right now I could do it. Two Smart Cars,” he said.

That might've counted for somethin', only Shawn Kemp doesn't play in the NBA anymore. Plus, he is (or has been) a coke head. How is he gonna criticize someone else when he fucked off his career doin' yay? If he were still in the league, then maybe he could throw in his $0.02. Maybe Griffin's dunk wasn't all that great. The judges thought otherwise though, didn't they?

you mean the same judges who awarded a 45 to a dunk that was further than all the other dunks previous that ALL got 50's (free throw line)?

No, I meant the "other" judges!:cheeky: Yeah, his dunk wasn't all that great, but he won didn't he? Who was it that gave the scores and determined the winner? The judges. Not the fans, not the coaches, not anyone's teammates...THE JUDGES. Sometimes, they don't make the right call, as with umpires in baseball. At the end of the day, Blake Griffin was awarded the trophy.

Oh so a retired, former dunk legend isn't allowed to comment on a dunk contest on a local radio show? lmao give me a break nerd!

and for the those wondering, Kemp is doing real good these days. He's cleaned up his act, he's a figure in the community again, has a new restaurant in Seattle amongst other things. It's nice to see him settled down and enjoying life.

I didn't say he couldn't comment. I said "how is he gonna criticize someone else.." If he's such a "dunk legend" why didn't he win any dunk titles? Too busy snortin' yay, I guess.

lol, Kemp is one of the best in game dunkers ever. I think hes allowed to share his opinion on a overrated shitty dunk in the dunk contest, hes not saying anything anybody wasn't already thinking. I love the "i could do 2 smart cars" line also

what is Blake Griffin yo daddy or something why you so sensitive? lol. all kemp said is he thought the dunk was weak, which most people thought it was. It's not hatin or anything. It's not like kemp went out of his way and contacted the media. this was just a local radio station here in seattle that has had kemp on a lot recently talking about a wide range of things and they asked his OPINION of the dunk contest and the winning dunk and he responded with he thought it was weak dunk.

sure Kemp was never the same after he was traded from the sonics but that doesn't take away what he did in Seattle. He was a hell of a ball player and one most entertaining players I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Him and Gary was one of the best combo's in NBA history.

No that's not all you said you went on a little rant about the whole thing but whatever though

Shit, I'm sure Kemp wasn't the same after he snorted yay, nevermind beng traded.
it all started with the trade for Vin fucking Baker. Worst trade ever! Kemp was very depressed after the trade, he's talked about this a lot since he's retired but I'm sure that's part of the reason or even the main cause of why he fucked around with stupid shit. He was never the same person after that trade, period, he fell into a depression and he had to fight a lot of demons for a lot of years.

He aint the first nor the last NBA player to have that happened to him.
