We'll compete this year with Russell at qb. We gotta find a way to block Merriman's ass and we'll be alright! It's a team effort, Garcia can't help stop the run, so our d gotta play better too! It's not all on JR!

It is true that Russell will not be relied on very much because of the running game, but when the raiders do decide to throw the ball, Garcia can make more plays and give you a much better chance than JaMarcus Russell can whether you like it or not.

Garcia >>>>>>> Russell

Garcia had a good career but he's old, washed up, and injury prone. I don't want to see him running around the pocket with his happy ass feet! Plus the Raiders don't run a West Coast offense anyway our offense is suited more for Russell and his ability to get the ball down field! JR is in the process of developing!

^I agree. I would much rather see JR than Garcia on the field. BUT if my team were still AFC West, I'd be rooting for Garcia lol

Garcia makes better decisions and has proven to be a winner. He doesn't have a cannon arm but he can get the ball downfield if need be. The raiders system is more suited for Russell, I agree. But Russell has many things to work on before he can give you a better chance to win than a good veteran like Garcia will. Also, his "happy feet" will probably be beneficial because your O-Line sucks ass when it comes to pass protection, not so much when it comes to run blocking though. Russell is too slow to escape the rush like Garcia does.

i dont disagree about garcia being a better option right now but russell did progress as the season went along. russell moves just fine in the pocket. he does need to be more decisive but overall had a decent rookie year. you guys want him to be a bust like ole ASS it must hurt.

I don't want JR to be a bust. He got paid top dollar and I want him to earn that shit. I am rooting for JR to do well if he gets to start. But he is on the Raiders team, so it might take some time. I think that Garcia is done, though. Garcia is as old as Favre. nuff said.

I think the JR and the Raiders will be fine. We don't need any qb controversies, JR is our starting franchise qb. Garcia was brought in as a mentor/role model. There's no way he's hitting the bench with that arm.

What the fuck are you talking about? I don't give a shit about Russell or anyone else on the raiders. He's not important enough for me to want him to be a bust. I'm just saying if you want to win NOW, Garcia is a far better option. I'm not saying Garcia should start, just that he's better than Russell whether you like it or not.

We want to win now and we'll be fine with JR starting. Man you act like Garcia is a mutli MVP and SuperBowl Champ. He's good in the West Coast Offfense but we don't run that offense. We want to win now and we'll do it with Russell under center. We finished off the season with 2 wins in a row and Russell outplayed Garcia in that last game. The playoffs were on the line and Russell led the Raiders over Garcia and the Bucs (with the playoffs on the line). If my memory serves correct, Russell led a comeback and played pretty good in that game. We were down and Russell brough us back. We're rallying around Russell!

Russell>>>>>>>>>>>Garcia

Yeah, the fact that I replied to a thread titled "serious question for RAIDER FANS" clearly means I want JaMarcus Russell to be a bust. That makes sense.

I've replied in threads about the fuckin Cleveland Browns. Do I have any reason to give a shit about that team? NO. This is a discussion forum, it's what we do here. We don't have to have a vested interest in the topic to reply.

good rebuttal.

i just find it odd people are calling JR a bust. he really had a good year for a rookie considering the talent around him. the 1st game of the year said alot to me. not the outcome obviously, but the fact JR didnt start forcing balls and end up with 3 or 4 picks when things got out of hand. he did progress throughout the year and was a winner his last 2 starts. he has room for improvement for sure, but overall looks to be fit for the NFL. my only concern is his work ethic and leadership skills. that is nothing some wins can put on mute real quick. in the end it's about results anbd if JR wants blow and be an ass on his time i could care less if he handles business on the field.

And to add to that JaMarcus Russell and Jeff Garcia faced each other in the last game of the season and JR outplayed Garcia, resulting in a win for the Raiders and the Bucs missing the playoffs. I guess Fatal somehow forgot about that game. And yes Russell put up better numbers in that game as well.

RUSSELL 100%. GARCIA IS A GREAT VETERAN BACK-UP BUT RUSSELL IS THE GUY. HE NEEDS TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOP. THIS WILL BE A PIVOTAL YEAR FOR HIM. HE STARTED OUT BAD LAST YEAR BUT THEN TURNED IT ON IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON. IF YOU LOOK AT HIS NUMBERS FROM LAST YEAR-THEY DIDN'T TURN OUT BAD. HE HAD 2,400 PASSING YARDS, 13 TD'S TO 8 PICKS- THOSE ARE NOT BUST NUMBERS. PEOPLE NEED TO SHUT THE FUCK WITH THAT FAGGOTRY.

RUSSELL WILL BE FINE.

GOOD POINT. I FORGOT ABOUT THAT. RUSSELL FAR OUTPLAYED HIM IN THAT GAME. NOT SAYING THAT RUSSELL IS BETTER THAN GARCIA, OR THAT THEY CAN EVEN REALLY BE COMPARED, BUT THAT IS TRUE. WE MASHED THE BUCS LAST SEASON AND RUSSELL PLAYED REALLY WELL.

DEPTH CHART: Russell shows up heavy
JaMarcus Russell | Raiders
According to a post on the Twitter feed of Raiders beat writer Jerry McDonald, JaMarcus Russell arrived at camp overweight.
McDonald quotes Russell as saying, "I'm probably a little heavy. But I'm not 300 pounds like you all said last year."

Cam Inman of the Oakland Tribune also noted that seemed distant from his teammates during practice on Thursday and that he "certainly didn't ooze any leadership charisma."

All that could be seen as a lack of commitment from the Raiders' former first overall pick. With Jeff Garcia ready to give Russell a challenge for the starting job, Russell could land on the bench if he continues his behavior.

man I hope Russell can prove himself this season... I'd like Russell to start and play well... BUT if he plays like shit... I say we throw Garcia in there

honestly with the way the division looks right now we have a shot at taking this shit

and look at teams replacing young QBs with old men... Arizona... Tennessee... those teams didn't do bad last season

I know we got a lot of money invested in Russell... but at the same time... we gotta take advantage of a weak division when we can... and if Garcia is our best bet to win in a weak division... then shit.... let him play

and you guys gotta remember... letting Russell sit for half a season or some shit doesn't mean we're giving up on him completely... let him sit back, watch and learn from Jeff Garcia for a little while... tell him he's still our man and let him start next season

Russell needs to get in shape and stay in shape, he does need to embrace his role as a leader more! I'm behind Russell but he does need to show more dedication. I'm cool with Garcia playing if Russell plays like shit, week in and week out, but I don't see that happening!
