lol @ people being so short sighted about Native Americans.

News Flash: They weren't the first people in North America, that would be the Vikings of Iceland

Vikings did come to North America! Great on you for knowing some prehistory. They also traded with the Dorset and possibly the Thule who were already here and had been for quite some time.

The more you know.

I don't know what your problem is America. Let the kid fly his flag. Just to see what would happen in Canada I wore a t-shirt with an American flag to see if I'd get any adverse reactions. Nothing bad happened. In fact some people even treated me nicer.

This kid should be allowed to fly his own countries flag in his own country, that's all I'm saying.

Oh, by the way. This is the t-shirt I wore today:

LOL ^

To say that the Vikings discovered North America, is to neglect the Native American population that had already expanded and migrated from the Arctic to South America. The Vikings only reached North America by about 1000AD (Don't quote me I'm going by memory).

Although there is some debate about when Native Americans reached North America (ie. pre-clovis?) There is no debate that by about 13,500ya, they had established themselves south of Canada.

So, no. The Vikings did not 'discover' North America. The Native Americans did.

The Vikings definitely traded with the Dorset and quite possibly the Thule. Iron.

No, in reality there is solid evidence that puts Native Americans south of Canada prior to 13,500 years ago. This clearly puts them in North America at least 12,500 years before Vikings.

No. Solid evidence, not opinion. Archaeological remains and radiocarbon dates. Not to mention the fact that according to the Vikings they met and traded with a population that was already here (Skræling).

Carbon-14 dating gives unreliable results

factors in radiocarbon dating have to be assumed by circumstantial information

Why don't you tell me about these assumptions and circumstantial information? I'm really curious about what a 15 year old expert has to say.

Also, what are your thoughts about the Vikings own comments about meeting and trading with a population that was already established in North America?

2. http://www.specialtyinterests.net/carbon14.html

3. The "vikings comments" weren't written by vikings

1. So you recently had a birthday, Happy belated.

2. I stopped reading at "Are the findings of evolution research" C14 dating isn't used for materials that old.

3. Circular reasoning Timm. If you can't accept archaeological evidence, or what is written in the Saga of the Greenlanders what evidence do you propose that the Vikings actually even were in North America?
