SAN FRANCISCO -- A 16-year-old Bay Point boy has been charged as an adult for the Monday murder of 21-year-old Curtis Adams, according to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office.
Aubrey Durelle Johnson has been charged with murder with an enhancement for the use of a firearm for allegedly killing Adams, Deputy District Attorney Dan Cabral said today.
Johnson was arraigned on the charges today, but did not enter a plea. He was referred to the public defender's office and is scheduled to return to court April 15, Cabral said.
The shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. Monday on Marin Avenue at Willow Pass Road in unincorporated Bay Point, Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.
Sheriff's deputies found Adams on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his head.
He was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he died at about 4 p.m. Tuesday, Lee said.
Detectives identified Johnson as a possible suspect in the shooting and served a search warrant at a home on Water Street in Bay Point Tuesday evening, where he was arrested.
