In one of the clearest signs yet of Ben Roethlisberger laboring to change his reputation, the Steelers quarterback has told a Pittsburgh newspaper that his religious beliefs preclude him from living with his fiancee.

Roethlisberger told Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that his fiancee, Ashley Harlan, lives at home with her parents, and that the couple’s religious faith and beliefs are the reasons for not living together until marriage.

That’s quite a change for Roethlisberger, who developed a reputation as a womanizer over the first six seasons of his NFL career and who has twice been accused of sexual assault.

Now Roethlisberger says he’s a changed man, although he knows some people are skeptical of how much he has really changed.

“People will always have opinions of everybody and me, and that’s fine, they’re entitled,” Roethlisberger said. “But people who know her, know me, know us . . . people can say that it is whatever, but people who know and can see and are around us and know me, know that it’s something special when you find that person, and I’m extremely lucky.”

Roethlisberger’s wedding is scheduled for July 23. He says Harlan hopes the lockout will delay the start of training camp just long enough for a honeymoon.

^^lots, if not most people think it's good to live with someone first before getting married because that's how you truly learn about your partner. You don't know shit unless you live with them. You gotta make sure you can live together and be compatible that way before getting married, that just sets up a disaster if you don't imo.

I'm not gonna make this a religious argument but christians do believe that shackin up is wrong and goes against god's word. The theory is as long as u keep God in the center your relationship will be fine, so there is no need to live with a person to get to know them as the both of u will grow and learn about each other and god's word. Etc.

As someone of having Mongoloid roots somewhere thousands of years ago in my ancestry, I'm offended that you would call him such a name. He ain't got nothing on the rape mongering/woman thrashing of Genghis Khan. I think like .18% of all asians are decendents of Khan. Ponder that.

I understand why it's a topic but thanks for putting this out there. Me and my wife (tried to) live as closely to this as possible before getting married. We had kinda fooled around when we first got together but didn't have sex and didn't move in together til we got married. If you honor God with your relationship, God will honor your relationship. Hasn't failed us.

wow, really? seriously... That's impressive.

On a similar note, my friend is from Laos and his name is George Thanphachanh. I tried to convince him that the Thai people changed the spelling of Khan to Than because of their disdain for Khan and that his real name (Jot) translates to Genghis so his real name is actually Genghis Khanphachanh. Didn't work but he thought it was literally the funniest thing he's ever heard

I have to 100% disagree. If you dont live with someone before marriage you have NO IDEA what you're going into. Seeing each other everyday and every night. Wake up together and go to bed together. I think only a dumbass mf would jump into marriage when you've never lived with the person. Like 2-0Sixx said, thats setting up nothing but disaster.


Probably why so many people Divorce now days. They just rush into marriage and cant stand each other couple years down the road.
