She fucked up in that when she was DL'n the songs, she should have taken off the "share folders" option in KaZaa, therefore she wouldnt have been uploading anything. The average user doenst realize that you can DL and NOT share anything you just DL'd. She fucked up and didnt even know it....until $220,000 slapped her in the mouth.

on subject, this is just fucked off. Fuck a copyright enfringement. At most, the lady should be forced to pay for a legit copy of each cd she had a song from...no way that would total anywhere near 220,000 dollars. They'd make the money she "stole" from them. She didn't profit off downloading tracks. I read it somewhere in this thread, and its true, if these major labels put out some good-even DECENT-music, maybe people would support it.

First off...LOL at "Fuck a copyright enfringement."...

She didn't profit, but by what she did, she denied the OWNER of the material from making a profit. To me, morally, maybe $220,000 is a little too much, but if millions of people were stealing from your busines, I'm sure you would try to set an example out of someone also.

I think the point that is getting lost in this is that the decision was handed down by a judge but it is up to the record companies for how they will make her pay. After talking to a lot of people that I work with, the goal of this case for the record companies was to set an example...a lot of people believe that they will not force her to pay the judgement. They just want to show people what can happen if they do steal their music.

Go after Kazaa if anybody. Not a single mother. Remember without Kazaa she would have never downloaded OR uploaded to anybody. Like you said, millions of people down-and-up-loading...and they decide to go after her? I'm sure theres SOMEBODY who HAS 220,000 dollars who is downloading that they could go after. She'll be paying that off the rest of her life. Fuck record company's anyway they making more money off artists than the artists themselves.

That single mother knew the risk that she was taking...Doesn't matter who it is, she committed a crime. Not only that, the record labels have warned the public that they're not afraid to go after ANYBODY!!!

And if an artist is willing to sign their money away to a label, blame the artist.

Seriously...I used to fuck around with Kazaa...I never personally uploaded shit, but I did download music. I'm looking for a place; where do I get music from? Is the advice I read earlier (turn off your 'share' folder on Kazaa) legit?

I don't want to make a post in the open forum like, ''Yeah...got sued for $200,000...anyone interested in doing a benefit concert, hit me up..."
