Yukmouth and tech n9ne are some good examples of independent rappers that aint really gettin no radiospins but REALLY cakin off the rapgame and both sell more then keak, fab, quinn etc.

Its also the amount of work you are willing to put in some people just think the music is going to sell itself. It's important to be visible.. be out there, collaborate with people from different places, show your face at events, in the streets etc. Alot of rappers from the bay are scared to invest in their careers even tho i can understand that cuz the music industry is fucked up and so unpredictable but if you aint serious with it you should leave it alone.

great points!!!!!! nickatina is another great example... tech n9ne is doing real good

DIDNT TECH 9NE JUST GO GOLD?
Nah he sold 22k his first week of his latest album that came out like 2 months ago ( dont know where he is at right now).. thats hella impressive considering how fucked up sales are these days.. His first 2 albums did around 150k.

He is independent.. No videoplay, no real radio play just a strong fanbase and a result of years of grindin and puttin in work.

lil wayne goes platinum. he getting more than .50. he already a platinum artist so his royalty rate starts off high. but for arguments sake, lil wayne clears about a dollar a cd. that is a million dollars. give him 20 grand per show at least. pencil him in for at least 50 shows. so give him a million right there. give him about 50 grand for features. another 100 grand for back sales. a major label artist that really hustle will run circles around any indie artist. the advantage for a dude like mess is he can do this however he want to and noone can ever tell him how to stand or where to stand. but he might make a couple of hundred racks in a year and somebody like wayne might make a couple of million.
some might say give me the smaller paper and let me be my own boss. others want that bigger fame, but less control

TECH is GOLD on ABSOLUTE POWER..might not be certified cause he sold a lot on the road doing 150 shows in 2005 alone????
He might be "Ghetto Gold" on his entire catalog. I seriously doubt certified gold by RIAA.

but some people on here really think the money is in indie sales. i hear stuff like oh they got 8 dollars a album and they sold 100 thousand. reality is after all is said and done they got 4-5 an album and they sold less than 10 thousand. young rappers think so and so almost mad a million on that album. fuck a major i am gonna go indie.
go out and try and sell 5000 records. i hear stuff like it only 'sold that?'
even better go out and try and sell a 1000. to sell 5000 records you gotta have a full team behind you and a whole lotta hustle. you gotta have dudes who know what they doing dedicating their whole day to pushing you.

true, some people got the game all fucked up.. there are some advantages to taking the indie route but you have to actually MOVE UNITS. I feel you tho all that fuck a major im going indie cuz thats where the money at talk only counts if you can move units and aint nobody doing no numbers anymore..

like you said if you about your hustle and got good music major label is obviously where the money at.. you dont even have to do crazy numbers e-40 barely went gold but he still gettin that show money just of the hype of tell me when to go its hard to get a single crackin independently.

ICE CUBE IS THE BEST EXAMPLE RIGHT NOW IN SHOWING HOW TO EAT OFF YOUR SALES AND THAT BEING ON A MAJOR DOESN'T ALWAYS BRING YOU BETTER MONEY....SOLD HIS LAST ALBUM INDEPENDENTLY, PUSHED OVER 500,000 UNITS AND MADE A COUPLE MIL.
