Its an actual fact that albums sales are down in tghe US across the board. Anybody that doesn't think bootleggin is affecting sales needs to holla at all these aretist tryin to make lawsuits against people doin it.

The fact of the matter is that marketing is everything, period. How do you think em, 50, jigga, snoop, game, luda, or any of the top sellin cats go multi platinum? Its all about promotion and marketing. The ability to stay in the public eye through all types of mediums is key for album sales. An artist, their album, any drama, and the albums release date, should be drilled into a consumers head so much they wake up screamin the shit. Lots of people are dumbfounded at how Mike Jones sold so many albums and the reason he did is because everybody in the fuckin world knew his first and last name by heart. Yeah it got annoying that he kept repeating himself over and over again but the fact that people were talkin about it (good or bad), meant that obviously he was on their mind. This is a key element for success. You need to be on the consumers mind constantly so when the album drops people make it a point to go get it.

Hopefully Bay artist will realize this fact before its too late.

For someone who doesn't watch tv much, that none of that should matter to you.
Course it affects me. I'd like to be able to turn on the radio or television and see something that ain't the same 5 or 6 Hot Rappers This Year every now and then.

The point is clear. Better promotion = better chance of success. Having a name that isn't played out yet = better chance of success. I wasn't talking about "young west coast rappers, in 2005, with almost no promotion" so what is your point?
My point is this: in the case of the new DJ Quik and Warren G albums, do you think the whole "played out name" thing really played a part? Do you think that if DJ Quik and Warren G were two new cats that just came out with those same albums, on the same label, with the same promotion, they would have had more success than they have now, being "played out"? Cause I really don't think they would have, but that's me.

Not that played out 90's music & hustle. I've already spoke on this topic plenty of times before though so I'm not too interested in beating the dead horse.
You do whatcha like.
