RUSSELL DEAL OFFICIALLY DONE

RUSSELL DEAL OFFICIALLY DONE by Michael David Smith

Oakland Raiders rookie quarterback JaMarcus Russell is finally, officially, signed.

Russell is at the Raiders' facility this morning, and the holdout that lasted through all of training camp and the preseason and even beyond the first game of the regular season has come to an end.

The Russell contract actually would have been done Saturday, but a key person on Raiders' negotiating team had a family issue that held up getting all the i's dotted and t's crossed.

Russell now will, most likely, spend the entire 2007 season standing on the sidelines holding a clipboard and watching Josh McCown and/or Daunte Culpepper. That's probably not what the Raiders envisioned when they drafted Russell, but it worked well enough for Carson Palmer.

He probably was asking for that from the jump... Now the Raiders had to go out and sign Culpepper. So we'll have 2 qb's that will be getting paid top dollar to sit on the bench. If they would have offered that from the jump he (Russell) could have been second string by now.
Culpepper is going to start the next few games since McCown broke his finger....hopefully Dante will do well and continue to start for the rest of the season, unless they decide to throw Russel in late in the season....

^I thought McCown played pretty good but I think Daunte could play even better. I think Kiffin is making a mistake by playing McCown over Daunte. Daunte has a ton of experience and has better accuracy on his deep throws. It's only a matter of time before teams begin to figure out McCown is not that accurate throwin it deep. You see what Detroit did? Zone blitzed which took away that short pass and then bam... INT.

But anyway... our defense has to play much better than they did or it won't matter who we have startin' at QB. And we know Mike Shannan and his play action/misdirection plays. Rob Ryan will have to switch it up and stop playing so much man to man defense.
