Raiders also hire

JACKIE SLATER to be the OL coach and IRV EATMAN to be his assistant.

Slater could be good...I know nothing of Eatman so can't speak on that.

Slater will be Shell's puppet anyway as Shell will run the OL. Again my worry for you raiders fans is Shell isn't the greatest at the x's and o's of an offense and he has no defense to work with what so ever.

I think our D will suprise some folks.... They didn't do the best this past season but they improve muched compared to the season before... I am confident in our 2 young CBs Washington & Asomngua... Our LBs should be a pretty solid group with Morrison, Clark, AJ Hawk (maybe), Dline should be good with Burgess & maybe Mario Williams( if he's there & we don't take Hawk) @ the ends.. Only thing that concerns me on D is the safety position.. Stu looked lost a lot of times.... But this is the season I feel we move on without C. Wood & if he does stay he plays as safety

All I like on that D is Burgess. The rest of it is the same squad that has been beaten the past 3 years, so it's not like it was a bad 1 year for the d.

Woodsen needs to go...you guys are paying way too much money for that crap. Mario W would be a better pick-up than Hawk. I don't know why but I don''t like Hawk (I see another Bosworth or the likes in him) nothing to back that up just see it...lol.

cb and safety are non-existent, and that is a bad thing as there isn't much to help thats available (especially without the cap room).

I see Shell helping the OL enough to where Jordan could be a beast, but then you still have the qb problems to worry about. If noone fears the pass the run becomes nil...that is the real problem on the offense, not OL or anything else.

Hopefully Woodson will be gone and we'll save some cap room. I thought Asomugha and Washington played as good if not better then him last season anyway. Both are good young CB's but we definetly need help at safety. Gibson should be gone(hopefully) and I like Stu but I think he's gotta get a little bigger and stronger to be a starter. Clark and Morrison are good at LB but we need a couple more solid LB's and also some more youth and athleticism at the D-line since we got some old guys who will be retiring soon(Hamilton, Washinton).Overall tho I think we have some good pieces on defense but still alot of holes to fill. The defense improved last year tho... the only way you would know is if you actually followed the Raiders and watched all their games the past 2 years.

The Raiders are more interested in maintaing their bad-ass image than winning football games. They'd rather go 0-16 playing Raider football than win the Super Bowl playing a more successful brand. That seems to be Al Davis' way, Art Shell wasnt a great decision for coach, because mainly, he just fits that description, but i guess the Raiders didnt have much of a choice since he was 1 of the last resorts along with Lofton.

Oh and Woodsons does not have $ towards this upcoming seasons cap, without him they are 30 mil over, so theres no cap saving with him leaving.

Thats exactly what Ive been asking, how u gonna put him over more Highly qualified candidates?

This is Raider fan we are talking about here. They got "THE MAN" they wanted. They don't care about qualifications or the fact that the guy hasn't coached in 12 years.

No HC job in 12 years..But yes he was #1 or 2 on thier list. If Raider fan believes that then I cannot help them anymore.

No one was offered contracts because noone took the interviews. Everyone outside of raider nation knows that is the most undesirable job in the NFL. You seriously believe someone who hasn't been a HC for 12 years or any type of nfl job for over 5 years was the #2 guy?????????

I'd understand if it was just anybody, But this is Art Shell, former Raider player, Former successful HC.... Yeah his last time as an NFL assistant for the falcons was like in 01, But he's still been workin for the league & knows how the game is today

Al just wans't quick to pull the trigger,, Viewin the options out there..... Waited til after the SB to see whats up with this Wisenhunt character.. But regardles I'd rather have Shell over any of the names that where said to be future HC of the Raiders ( Saunders & Wisenhunt ) where the popular names.... Wisenunt is overrated IMO.. The steelers offense is far from a "great" offense, Its their D that they are known far,,,,, & then the Saunders guy from KC, I wouldn't give him the credit for KCs successful offensive line

WTF are you an idiot? If Woodson plays on the team next year it will be because Al was dumb enough to franchise tag him again(which wont happen) or signs him to an overpaid contract that Woodson wants. Thats why I said save that money and use it on bigger holes the team needs. It doesnt mean shit that the team is over the cap now, the team is over the cap going into every offseason.

Exactly..Art Shell WAS the original plan just like I posted over a month ago. Then when KC brought in Herm Edwards for HC, Al Saunders got pissed and wanted to leave so Al started gettin interested in him, Saunders decided to take the fat contract over in Washington as OC so Al kept his options open and waited til after the SB to interview Whisenhunt. Since Whisenhunt wanted full control of the team Al said no then offered Petrino the contract. Petrino declined so Al went back to his original man and the best choice available IMO, regardless of what you donk fans say about Shell not coaching in over 10 years. It didn't hurt Gibbs or Vermeil to be out of coaching for awhile so I dont see why it would hurt Shell. He was probally the only guy available who knows how to work with Al Davis, has had success working for Al and will excepts his role.
