Exactly..Art Shell WAS the original plan just like I posted over a month ago. Then when KC brought in Herm Edwards for HC, Al Saunders got pissed and wanted to leave so Al started gettin interested in him, Saunders decided to take the fat contract over in Washington as OC so Al kept his options open and waited til after the SB to interview Whisenhunt. Since Whisenhunt wanted full control of the team Al said no then offered Petrino the contract. Petrino declined so Al went back to his original man and the best choice available IMO, regardless of what you donk fans say about Shell not coaching in over 10 years. It didn't hurt Gibbs or Vermeil to be out of coaching for awhile so I dont see why it would hurt Shell. He was probally the only guy available who knows how to work with Al Davis, has had success working for Al and will excepts his role.
So you want to be like Washington and KC?????? 8-8 9-7, occasional 10-6????

oh wait this is Raiders, that would be an improvement. Sorry I misunderstood.

Vermeil won the Super Bowl with the Rams after he came back and Gibbs has Washington in the right direction.
Washington in the right direction. They were lucky to make the playoffs, they got waxed more then they did waxing, and noone is afraid to play them. Vermiel inherited a GREAT team, look what happened after that year, team got tore apart with no defense <--does that same discription not fit what he did in KC, KC was a good team on both sides of the ball Dicky gets there and it is a good offense but a crappy defense, and he has hurt that team to no end. KC has major defense problems, but they keep going after Offense players. Did you do an adequet job..sure, but to say you want to compare Shell to be like them..I wouldn't want that if I were you.

I never said Washington was a powerhouse. But they have improved since Gibbs has got there and some of their recent coach signings should help them for the future.

I didnt say I wanted Shell to be like them, I was using them as an example that a head coach can still be successful after being out of a coaching position for awhile.

I see what your saying bro. I just don't know if I would want to use them as examples.

Hey Like I said earlier in the thread if Raider Nation is happy with the hire then so am I. The one thing I would look at if I were you is this though....noone outside of the Raider Family has said this was a smart or even good hire. Now can everyone be wrong of coure!!!! look at what everyone (myself included..I admit) said about the playoffs Pitt has no chance it's chicago and Indy or seattle Denver..etc....So can we all be wrong of course... I just find it odd you cannot find anyone outside of your camp that likes this hire.

Since when does anyone outside of the Raider camp like anything we do. The media and fans love to ridicule us anyway they can. But thats what I love about being a Raider fan, its us against the world.

You know that's not true. Everyone preseason was bragging up the Raiders..Collins will throw deep to Moss and Poter...unstoppable, Lamont Jordan will be the feature back they have always needed, they will be back atop the west like the SB season, etc....

The raiders get love when they should, it's just noone likes this hire outside of the R nation.

I guess it depends on who your talkin about..I know a bunch of Raider fans were having ridiculously high expectations for last season. But I recall people in the media still sayin they will finish below .500 when I felt the team had the talent to finish around 8-8.

Hell even me being a Bronco fan thought they would be a competitve team last year and most preseason publications had San Diego and Oakland as the top 2 AFCWest teams.

3VID3NC3,

YOU STRESSED, "Because things change..and besides there was no need to hurry and hire Shell..its not like he was gonna go to another team."

LOL. THAT'S FUCCED UP.

THAT MAKES MY POINT EVEN STRONgER:
SO WHY WASN'T ART SHELL OFFERED THE JOB FROM JUMP? I'D STILL FEEL LIKE A REJECT OR SAMETHIN'. KNOWIN' THAT I'M A LAST RESORT AND THAT I ONLY gOT A HEAD COACHIN' JOB CAUSE AL DAVIS AIN'T 20 YEARS YOUNgER.(AND THEY FIgURED I WASN'T gOIN' N-E-WHERE, INCLUDIN' THE FANS)
