i think art shell will make em playoff contenders. hes a good veteran coach

So good he wasn't wanted by anyone else the past 10 years. :ermm:

This was a hire of convenience. Shell needed a job, Davis needed a coach, and Davis knows That Shell knows who the boss is. Now Davis doesn't have to worry about whopping anyone else into shape.

This is truly 1 of the worst hires that the Raiders could have made. They should have went after someone like Martz as an OC then went after a defense minded head coach. Martz would have used Jordan Porter and Moss just like he did with Faulk Holt and Bruce the past few years. and then the d minded coach could have worked on just that side of the ball. So right now I think the Raiders are in no better position to help them selves.

But if Raider fan is happy so am I!

Ill take Shell at HC before guys that were rumored like Saunders and Marinelli or guys that are still around like Fassell. Your trippin if you dont think Shell is an upgrade at HC. Id rather have Ronald fuckin Mcdonald then Norv Turner. Im not thrilled at the OC signing tho..I think Martz wouldve been a good choice but I dont think he wanted to come here to be just an OC.

From Raiderfans.net

"I'm as happy as anyone can be. I always thought he was going to be a great head coach and that's never changed. He's back where he belongs and this is the right thing. He's a Raider and has always been a Raider. With Art, [Raiders Owner Al Davis] knows Art, he remembers when we drafted him, he remembers him as a player, an assistant coach and as a head coach. When Art walks in here, he knows what it is, he doesn't have to learn all the nuances, he'll learn the players, he'll learn the coaches and the football. Having been here, the two of them, that's why I think this will work." - JOHN MADDEN

"I am very excited - this stands for tradition, history and is what the Raiders are all about. This exemplifies our Commitment to Excellence. History will show that this is the correct move and the right move and we will be back where we are supposed to be." - GENE UPSHAW

"Art is a true Raider. He is a proven talent in terms of his coaching ability and I'm glad he has accepted this challenge. I can speak for his former teammates as well as Raider fans, that we will give him 100 percent support. He is the right guy for the job and personally I am very excited to see him have the opportunity once again." - RAYMOND CHESTER

"I thought he did a fine job the first time around. He's someone everyone respects and he commands respect. I was happily surprised of his understanding of the quarterback position and the role the quarterback plays on a team. I'm looking forward to his second time around. He's a guy who does his homework and gets his team ready to play. He has a thorough understanding of the elements of a football game." - JIM PLUNKETT

"It is fantastic that Art Shell got the head coaching job. It is going to be difficult I think, but he is going to be really good. He is a man that people are going to listen to and he is going to demand his players listen to him. His assistant coaches are going to work with him because he is a prominent player, a Hall of Famer; he was a great offensive lineman." - JIM OTTO

"I think it's fantastic, congratulations to Art. He has an opportunity to come back and contribute to the history of the Raiders. He's always been a quiet leader. This is a great moment in Raiders history. We need to win." - MORRIS BRADSHAW

"I think it's a great thing for the Raiders because Art is a Raider and he knows what it means to be an Oakland Raider. You have to put the swagger back in Oakland and make people think about playing the Raiders in Oakland. You look at Art, he was a great player and has great work ethic." - JACK TATUM

"Art returning is a breath of fire. We definitely need the toughness restored and the meaning of playing Raider football. He's a guy that understands this organization. He grew up in this organization and he's had a chance to go out and venture and see all the other things happening. He understands the Raider philosophy because he grew up in it." - GEORGE ATKINSON

"I'm excited about having a coach. I'm even more excited about having a former Raiders player as coach. He has been in that locker room, played for that owner and knows what it's like to be in Silver and Black." - DANNY CLARK

"It's going to be great playing for a Hall of Famer and a Raider Legend. It's an honor especially for an offensive lineman like me." - LANGSTON WALKER

"I think it's great. He brings instant credibility in the locker room and guys will listen to him because he's a Hall of Famer. I can remember watching those Raider teams when he was the coach and I'm excited to get back to that style of football." - KIRK MORRISON

I think Martz would have went as on OC if given the right HC. I think if they would have told him Shell was going it may have appealed to him. But Davis had to be himself and thought things had to get done sooner rather than later.

Seriously though, this was the only choice Davis had to go with. Raider fan will tell you he only talked to one person before this....THAT'S BECAUSE PEOPLE WERE TURNING HIM DOWN!!!!

The greatest question here that Raider fan cannot answer is this:

If he is such a good hire why has he been out of HC contention for 12 years and out of any coaching contention for 5???? If he was good he would have at least had his name out there...but nope.

Sounds like you have a hot commodity on your hands there.

Again, this is a case of Davis and going out and getting old stale meat!! Just like all of his recent year transactions.

so they could put up 35 points on offense and give up 42 on D

Art shell is going to make this team a playoff contender in the toughest conferance................... we got the players just need the right HC

How do you have the players??? That defense is a poor excuse for nfl talent, it's even worse than KC's!

But yeah you will challenge for the division...yep.
