toney got robbed. He was starting to fuck rahman up. you can tell rahman was lying when he said he cant see out of his eye because a). the cut was above the eyebrow, b). the cut wasn't bad and c) his eyes were wide open!

He basically felt toney brought his A game and was startin to school him so he bitched out

wait as sec, looks like toney got the win after all....

Toney TKOs Rahman!
By Francisco Salazar at ringside
Heavyweight James "Lights Out" Toney (71-6-3, 44 KOs) scored a controversial third round TKO over Hasim "Rock" Rahman (45-7-3, 36 KOs) in their "Last Chance" clash on Wednesday night at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA. An accidental head butt in round three cut Rahman over the left eye and in the corner after the round, Rahman said he couldn't see. The bout was then stopped by referee Ray Corona on the advice of ring doctor Paul Wallace. It was originally thought the result would be a no decision, but officials ruled that Rahman had indicated he couldn't see before the cut was even examined, so a TKO was ruled. "This is the worst damn decision period," said Rahman after the fight. The Rahman camp plans to appeal.

damn, the ending of the Espn fight was not good. Oscar Diaz did not look good man...

None of those strategic points mattered as the scary moments between the tenth and eleventh round broke down. The referee talked to Diaz in the corner asking how many fingers he could see. While the response was hard to pick up, what happened next was not. Diaz rose to his feet and let out an agonizing scream, turning face first towards the ropes as his legs shook and then seemed to go out from under him. He squatted down in his corner, holding his gloves to his temples before being laid flat on the mat, rapidly attended to by EMT’s, provided oxygen, and stretchered out of the ring to a local hospital.

No further information was available as to Diaz’s condition at the time this article went to print. The staffs of Maxboxing and BoxingScene pray for the speedy recovery of Diaz.

I'll post videos if I find them.

Latest ESPN update on Diaz' condition (from about 2 years ago):

Diaz undergoes surgery to relieve swelling on brain

[...]

"Oscar came through surgery well," Ron Katz of Rodriguez promoter Star Boxing told ESPN.com after talking to Donna Duva Brooks of Hall of Fame Promotions, Diaz's promoter, who was at the hospital.

"They had to remove the left side of his cranium in order to help the swelling go down, which apparently was very bad," Katz said. "He had a subdural hematoma [bleeding on the brain], which was taken care of. During surgery, he apparently showed movement in his arms and his brain pressure was very good, according to the doctor."

Diaz was under heavy sedation following the operation, but was not in a medically induced coma, Katz said.

I think the cut did affect Rahman's vision but I also think he used it as an excuse to bail out of the fight. Toney was starting to land some hard shots and you could see that Rahman was beginning to get wobbled from them. Either way I think Toney would have knocked Rahman out... He was timing them counter shots perfect and Toney's punches were on the money.

I think the cut did affect Rahman's vision
The cut was above Rahama's eyebrow so I don't think it's possible for it to have effected his vision. Now his vision may have been a lil blurry from the clash of heads, but that would have passed within minutes.

I agree, Toney was on point last night. He looked like his old self.

Yeah the doctor shouldn't have stopped it and gave his corner a chance to work on the cut a few more rounds. You could see the blood dripping in his eye but he was getting tagged before the cut too.

I guess the doctor never stopped the fight, it was stopped by the ref when rahman kept saying he can't see. Rahman's corner was trying to get him ready for the next read but Rahman kept sayin he couldn't see or continue so the ref stopped the fight.

I thought the doctor stopped it to at first too, but Toney gets the TKO win because Rahman quit.

btw, I like how Toney said he'd knock Klitschko out and his sister Vitali!! lol, seriously though if Klitschko fights the way he did against Thompson and Sultan, I wouldn't doubt it.

You must really hate Wlad. Toney got outboxed by Sam Peter .. not knocked out but outboxed .. by Sam Peter. I don't think Toney has it in him anymore to be at the top of anything.

I said I wouldn't doubt it based on how shitty the big Klit has looked recently, I didn't say I'd bet on it. Also, Wlad got knocked down THREE times by Sam Peter.

When Toney fought Peter, he weighed his heaviest too, one time just about 160 the other time above 150. Toney never got hurt either which says something considering how fat and out of shape he was.

He did get put on his ass but he cleanly outboxed him and Wlad should get props for surviving three knockdowns and still winning. Toney has a good chin but I think it'd be better if Peter had knocked him silly because that's what people expected. Peter outboxing Toney is pretty sad.

I'm not a fan of Wlad's "don't get hit" style but the guy is good at what he does. And for all the talk about his chin he's gotten up several times from getting his face blasted and was put down by real punchers.

.. I had to get an arguement in before I went back to work heh.

Do you honestly think "Wlad is good at what he does" applies to his last fight? He looked horrible. My point is that if Wlad continues to fight like that, he's going to lose against any decent fighter. Go back a few fights, sure Wlad stays on the outside uses his jab and outboxes Toney (or pretty much anyone else) in a boring fight. But if he fights all retarded and scared like that again (no jab, punch-immediate clinch, or clinch w/o even throwing a punch, off-balance & confused), he's not going to be on top much longer.

And right, he's gotten up after being knocked down a dozen or more times in his career. He also didn't get up after being KD by 24-13 Ross Puritty (lol), Corrie Sanders or Brewster in the first fight.

In other words, his chin is wack which is why he fights all scared like he does, the guy simply doesn't want to be hit (and he freaks out when people swarm him too).

I honestly thought he looked better against Thompson than he did against Ibragimov. He stopped trying to slap down Thompson's hand and actually threw punches. Maybe he's fighting like that because he wasn't worried about Sultan or Thompson's power.

I don't see many people in the HW division at the moment that could exploit what he does or doesn't do. Sultan was a decent fighter and held a title and couldn't do anything. Peter already floored him three times and still lost and I also doubt Wlad would fight Peter like he fought Thompson doing all that stupid shit because he's already felt his power.

I'm not a fan of Wlad but I don't see many people beating him and it's not because he's all that great it's because the division isn't all that great.
