how old were u before u realized what it is u wanted to do with ur life and how long did it take u to get to that point in life where u were working this job?i finally figured it out at 27, thats alot time i wasted and its gonna take me 2yrs to finish school for this, i feel to old for that shyt..
let's see....i wanted to do something with music in high school...i did a low rider video for my graduation project and got some beats from a seattle producer who was my "mentor." that led me to want to do music stuff, video editing etc....when I got to college, i signed up for public relations, cause that's what i thought i wanted to do besides the music...

well, PR is lame as fuck, and only snakes do that shit (i don't lie to people for others and get paid for it, fuck that). so I changed my major to broadcast journalism--where i would be writing a ton, and doing A LOT of filming and video editing--which is what i really wanted to do.

i graduated in June with a BA in journalism (specialization in broadcast) and minors in advertising and sociology....plus some awards....

BUT...instead of getting a job after school....I went to Canada for the summer, and then to Europe for a couple weeks...

Now I am back, and have applied for 58 different positions. 2 places have called me back. The first people were morons and sent me someone else's confirmation email, so I didn't even go talk to them. Now, I've got an interview on Tuesday for a "Campaign Manager" job...but the dude said the company is starting a broadcast news network next month, so he's going to interview me for that, before they even start looking for people, so I got lucky.

On the other side...this chick I went to school with just got out like a week ago, just graduated. She applied for KING 5 news in Seattle (which I did too, a MONTH ago)...and this bitch has an interview BECAUSE her family works there. When she told me that, I told her to tell them I said FUCK YOU....cause my credentials are WAY better than hers....and better than about 95% (or more) of the people graduating from where I did with the same major...

Finding a job sucks. And when people get in because they have family, it's kind of annoying. But I guess I understand, I'd help out my fam too. Maybe this girl will be able to put in a good word for me or something. Just really pisses me off, cause I know for a fact that I did more work, better work, and put in more effort to the classes that counted than she did, but cause she knows someone she's got a hook up. I guess I should be happy for her though.

Good luck Stressn.....school ain't that bad...just get the work done and then you'll have time to do whatever. It's worth it in the long run to go to school and get a career that you really like, especially if it'll pay you more.

I never really felt like I had a choice. When I was a kid, my step dad instilled into me that going to college was a good thing, and that if I ever wanted to make decent money, I should get college out of the way asap. So when I graduated high school, I went straight to college...worked my first summer, and 2nd summer...but after that, I went to school all year round, fall, winter, spring, and summer quarters.

I just wanted to get it done so I could move on with my life...but what I realize now, is college is the best time you will probably ever have...if you are the average college student (lives close to campus, 18-25, parties, whatever)....I had a good time, but I miss it now.

I hope she can pull some strings too...what makes me mad, is she learned all her shit FROM ME! I was her mentor her first time in the "reporting" class, and I basically taught her how to write in broadcast style, and how to report. And how to produce a fucking newscast...so you could say I am a little bit bitter. LOL.....plus I won "broadcast journalism student of the year" for 2007.....and these cock smokers still didn't call me back....HA...

Anyway, college is a good thing. If you go, and graduate, you are pretty much on your way to making more money. All you really need is a good resume and cover letter, and you have to be able to sell yourself at an interview. Good luck with the school thing man, I'm sure you'll do well. And 2 years really isn't that much, that's like 6-8 quarters....if you dive in and do that shit, it'll be done before you even know it...and then you'll be like, "what the fuck? i'm done...damn...well, gotta get a job now!" lol.....

I go to South Seattle, tuition for three classes is anywhere from 800-1700 or so depending on the classes and books. Financial aid pays for it, but if I didn't get I'd pay for it myself. Definitely worth it. The first two years of college are deductible on your taxes if you are working as well. First year you get 100% of the first $1100 out of your own pocket back and the second year is 50% of the first $1100, so $550 back.

I graduated with my Bachelors of Science - Business Administration from a Cal State University about 2 years ago, and have been working a job I hate since then. I realized what I wanted to do after graduating college, and every job of that type I applied for said I didn't have enough Finance in my background (my concentration was Management). That pissed me off a lot cause to get my Finance concentration it was only like 5 classes. Anycase, I am applying for grad school for Fall 08 to pursue my MBA, and yes, I will be specializing in Finance. I feel after that, I will be able to get into my career, and what I really want to do. And even if I get a job that won't be my dream job, I'll still be getting paid a lot........

Good luck with that man. Getting your foot in the door is usually the hardest step. That's what I'm dealing with, as the News networks I've applied for ask for 2-3 years experience, and I only have 1-1 1/2.

I've been contemplating whether or not to go back and get my Master's....maybe in a few years or something. I just don't see how I would be able to do a Master's in 2 years and work full time...I got time to figure all that out though I guess.

yea i started like a year after high school cuz i wanted to just get in the working world right away but fuck it sucked so i decided to go back and now im gonna be 22 and a junior at Fresno STATE.... but by the time i get my masters ill be 26/27 and then ima take a break and maybe pursue going to vet school in UCDAVIS but that is like maybe when im 30/32. to save up cash and see if thats what i REALLY want to do. and im totally comfortable starting over until i find my "true calling" lol. i just dont want to be stuck at some mundane job that i will hate for the rest of my life. so if i were you just stick with what you want to do and pursue the fuck out it. just remember that you should be happy doing what you do, you dont want feel like you are stuck at what you are doing.
