Victim Had Just Realized Childhood Dream
Brandon Robinson died from a bullet that appears to have been intended for someone else. His parents say their son was a peace maker, who would never provoke a fight.
Robinson was just 23 years old and had recently saved up enough money to fulfill a childhood dream - buying a motorcycle. He was taking that motorcycle to a Labor Day barbeque to show friends when he was killed.
A witness was driving through Balboa Park Sunday around 8:30 p.m. when he saw a car was stopped in the middle of Jacaranda Place, blocking traffic.
"I thought I saw a car crash so I thought I'd be a Good Samaritan and help out. There was a guy on the floor, there was blood everywhere and apparently he had been shot," said Joshua Tarmann.
There were people standing around crying and hysterical, he said.
A friend of Robinson's said there had been a fight brewing between some of the party guests that he and Robinson didn't know. One person started shooting at the other but ended up shooting Robinson right through the head, according to the friend. He later died at the hospital. San Diego Police homicide detectives are now looking for information on the shooter.
Robinson's mom says her son worked two jobs, but was always smiling. "I can't believe they took my baby," said Donna Robinson. "A really sweet, fun loving guy, always the life of the party, always willing to help somebody."
