I BELIVE IF YOU A TALENTED ARTIST/PRODUCER/LABEL IF YOU GOT THE HUSTLE & DRIVE, YOU WILL GET YOUR CHANCE SOONER OR LATER. SOME PEOPLE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE THEIR CAREERS TAKE OFF EARLIER THAN THE OTHERS. FOR EXAMPLE, GAME, JT PUT HIM OUT AND DR.DRE SIGNED THE GUY. THATS HOT BUT ITS JUST DOESNT HAPPEN SO FAST WITH JUST ANYBODY. I LOVE TO SEE PEOPLE FROM THE BAY COME UP, IT AINT ABOUT WHERE YOU FROM, ITS ABOUT WHAT YOU BRINGIN TO THE TABLE. BAYAREA AINT THE ONLY PLACE TO DO GANGSTA RAP, EVERY ARTIST OUT THERE RAPPING ABOUT THE SAME SHIT. EVERYTHING IN RAP PRETTY MUCH BEEN SAID AND DONE. NOW ITS MORE LIKE HOW CREATIVE CAN YOU GET WITH YOUR WORDPLAY. THATS JUST HOW I FEEL. BAY GOT A LOT OF TALENT, BUT TALENT WONT TAKE YOU ANYWHERE IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS. RIGHT NOW I SEE CHUCK/QUIN GRINDING, CELLSKI DOIN IT BIG WITH LIL FLIP, JT I ALWAYS RESPECTED THE CAT ON A BUSINESS TIP CAUSE HE GOT SERIOUS HUSTLE, JACKA IS A HOT NEW ARTIST, 40 HAS ALWAYS REPRESENTED AND SO MANY OTHERS. IT TAKES TIME AND DEDICATION. DONT EXPECT IT TO HAPPEN OVERNIGHT. GET YOUR MONEY$$$$$$$$$$

I think Skee Lo & MC Hammer featuring Gary Coleman is gonna bring the bay back LOL!

V-Dub & Chuck...I totally understand what you 2 are saying. I mean, I'm from San Jose and I'm proud as fuck about that....but if I yell it everywhere I go people will think I'm crazy. My boy from L.A. told his peeps he was movin to San Jo, and they were like, "WHERE?".

WELCOME 2 ATLANTA....very good point. HOWEVER, when that song was made, ATLANTA was already a hip hop hot spot. 50 Cent is from NY, NY has been a hot spot, thats where it started. The south as a whole created a sound that a shitload of people like...I know 10 people that HATE the bay sound, but love the southern sound, cause it makes 'em wanna dance. Nelly's first single wasn't yelling St. Louis all over it. Los Angeles has been HOT because thats where the West Coast blew up. Feel where I'm comin from? The Bay Area has a mobbed out sound, period, which doesn't appeal to everybody. You can't go out and dance to mob style music. I'm glad to see some artists doing other things, like Quinn...I'm not saying I never rep the bay or any of that shit. I'm just saying, there is a time and place for everything. And, in MY OPINION, when people start recognizing, that's the perfect time to hit them with THE BAAAAAAYYYYYYY!! I can never be wrong with my own opinion.

So, thats where my head is and why I think what I think. I'm saying this of course with all due respect...I'm looking in from outside the box, and I see shit that a lot of cats don't see...I'm very perceptive, and I soak up game from all walks of life, from all over.

Thats all i do dog is kick the facts! I mean i thought that too, like for instance the Hardway song.. until i got a call and they were bumping it in Illinois, and Houston!

Was it on the radio in Illinois? Cuz I dont listen to the radio anymore, but last week I told one of my friends that does to call me if she ever herd Quinn on...

Quinn & Frontline prolly got the best chance right now, they got all the buzz.

Frontline & Quinn period>>>For Locksmith to be have been on MTV and not just get luv, but go out there rep the Bay, shit he had a Bay T-shirt and had Carson Daily say "New Bay" that's big...then they came back to the Bay and killed radio wit "What Iz It" man my boy in Hawaii said they be playin that shit all the time all the way out there...then you got that XXL magazine shit...all at the same time they allways rep the Bay. They have kinda already been embraced by the nation or atleast excepted as potintial "hot" new artist in the national spectrum of the rap game...the media outlets is already lookin at them plus they got dumb spits so you put it togeather...Quinn has one of the most well known cities in the world in the palm of his hand (along with it's radio station) He has the drive and the talent to make it big...Quinn has a track record and very importantly a catalog and that makes labels take your package as a whole a shit load more serious...The Bay has stars but like somebody said on here we got to make them...we have to buy they albums cause if we had artist pushin 50,000 indi like they do in the South we would get the power that they have in the South.

I don't see why yall want rappers from the Bay to blow up nationwide. It's an obsession for most of yall. I mean of course that will give recognition to the area but will it improve the music at the same time ? Maybe not.
I don't want north cali music to become commercial at all, see that's what I'm avoiding for the most part (some of the commercial stuff is cool, but like 10%). On the real, I'm tired of seeing the same videos on TV. Just turn the goddamn radio and BET off, no one needs that shit full of commercials. Stick to the real.
I love what I hear, share it with my folks, the rest of the world who listens to what I really don't give a fuck.

You're asking people who like bay area rap and want to see it gain popularity & become recognized across the nation. To get a more realistic perspective on things, try asking people who don't live in the bay or pacific northwest, and ask people who arn't necessarily bay area rap fans. If you want to know who's appealing to the rest of the nation, you gotta go ask them, not your neighbor.

Understand, this is a time when rappers like Chingy and J-Kwon are hot. Youngsters. The majority who consume rap music don't want to see some old cat still trying to grasp at a career. And by old I mean 26+. That's just how it is man. No matter how much cats don't want to admit it, the truth is that rappers have a shelf life and the door to capturing a nationwide audience doesn't stay open forever.

Having appeal in a region where you have history and having appeal in areas where it's likely not many, if anyone, has heard of you and probably don't give a fuck who you are, is two different things.

Don't forget about Cellski y'all, I have no doubts about him blowing up especially since he got signed to a major label. Look out for him on BET! Of course you already saw him in a Flip video already but you'll be seeing more of the Big Mafi.

The realist post came from Sick Wid It. I love where i'm from it along with my character and discipline from moms made me who i've become today, however the bay doesn't move forward. New artists come out of the south/east all the time, it isn't just Eightball & Mjg or the Rap-A-Lot cats from 91 they got new artists every year makin moves, in the east there's always like a draft, new cats to watch every year. Ever since I was 11 years old if this message board was here we'd have been saying the same hand full of cats are our chance. Other than frontline and balance the names in rotation have been in rotation for 10 years damn near. I ain't on no new bay or old bay what i'm on is respect the artist for the quality of their music, not the fact that you remember them bein hot when you were a pee wee. As sick wid it said the window of oppurtunity is very small these days and if you miss it, it is what it is don't be mad. I think the vets need to look at validating some new acts if they truly care about the future of our section and for the fans have an open mind, everyone has been burned on a bad purchase but take a shot at some new cats once in awhile. Half of my old cd's were cats I took a chance on I hadn't heard much from em but I tried it out, sometimes it's more satisfying to buy a cd from someone you knew nothing about and be shocked than buy someone's cd every single year and know what the album sounds like before taking off the wrapper. I could go on for days, we all could but i'll leave it at that. In closing so I don't get stupid comments, I have relationships with quite a few cats that have paved the way and I respect them, I respect anybody who's hot doin this music THE RIGHT WAY, alotta new cats ain't hot but some are and we all need to network together to let what few fans are out there seperate the bullshit from the real deal.

For those that said The Frontline has, as homie said "it" o be "stars" thanks for the luv...But I think that with the current state of music as an art and its dependency on sales, spins, videos, ect. forces one to only see traces of stardom in those who are getting hella radio, video, magazine love. But I think the win win is not for single artist or groups to blow, but to put the area above the individual and make your area shine as the star. Once your area gains that spotlight we (the artist) have the power to gain the power and the money as well as make our style of music the shit to follow. I personally don't want to make it if I have to sound like 50, Chingy, Lil Jon or anybody else doin they thang--thats they shit let them run wit it. I want to represent the Bay, I want to have Bay artist as my "big name" features and (cause we ain't just doin this for the fuck of it) I want the Bay's best to be able to make a living off of the hard work they put into there music. So I guess I want all of the hard working artist in our area to have they chance to be "stars".

peace

i think it comes down to creativity, and orignality. rappers that get on the radio, and got videos' they ai'nt rapping about nothing new, BUT they have their own creative and original twist on it. everyon's been to a club and all that, nutting new. but after 50 Cent dropped "in the club" everyone tryin to come out with songs for the clubs. that's just an example.
east coast started mixtapes, everybody from the west puts out mixtapes. i'm not saying that is BAD, but if u look at it, other places are being more original, or seem to have the idea first.
E-40 is a great example, because he's unique and orignal and no one's heard anything like him, west, east, south, anywhere, that's why he's is known coast to coast. east, south, mide west, shows 40 much love because he has his own style and originality.

this is just my opinion........i just think everyone should look outside the box, and not be stuck in it !!
