It depends on what model of the ps3 also, then if this rumored price drop happens any time in the near future your gonna be kicking yourself in the ass. I would just ride out borrowing it as long as you possibly can and wait for the best deal.
It's a 80 gig and he got it when they first came out and paid like $500 lol..

If there is a price drop what do you guys think a ps3 would go for? Arnt they over $350 right now brand new?

Well shit, if you got the OG 80 gig that means it plays the ps2 games and got the 4 USB ports and all that other shit. 300 is a pretty good deal, I would atleast try for 250, they go for 400 used i think.

the online isnt as deep as call of duty 4 or 5 and the maps are nowhere near as good.. but maybe your comparing it to an earlier call of duty?

I just beat Resistance 2. The campaign was pretty good, but it just didn't grab me like Gears of War, Call of Duty 4, World at War, Killzone 2, etc. I can't even really put my finger on it cuz it has some awesome weapons, and the boss battles are epic in scale, though pretty easy. I didn't even touch the MP side of it cuz I really only like to play with people I know and I don't have many friends on my PS3 friends list.

Dont get me wrong i aint sayin it's as tite as call of duty..but if yo lookin to get killzone 2 i think the conrols in resistance 2 are much more smooth and similar to call of duty without lag and i actually half ass have an idea of whats going on online unlike killzone 2 when you first get online...

Wait so the newer ps3's dont play ps2 games? What the fuck.. One of the reasons i was gonna cop a ps3 was to get some oldschool ps2 RPG's to play on it.

There's actually a rumor floating around that Sony is working on emulation to be able to play PS2 games.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/167632/sony_patents_ps2_software_emulation_already_offers_it.html/

When it comes to the PlayStation 3, it's apparently easy to confuse the game blogs. They've picked up on an incidental story by a tech site that communicates in fragments concerning Sony's recent filing to patent emulation of its legacy PS2 Emotion Engine vis-a-vis its "cell" processor. The cell processor, you'll recall, is the cerebral cortex of the PS3's multi-processing brainpan.

But "what if," to quote the source story, "the PS3's cell processor could emulate the Emotion Engine?"

What if indeed. Fortunately we don't have to wonder too obsessively, because it turns out the PS3's cell processor already does emulate the Emotion Engine--to greater or lesser effect, and depending on which model you own, anyway.

It happened years ago, when Sony yanked the EE chip out of the PS3 and introduced a cheaper software-driven alternative. Here's what Sony said about its PS2 software emulator back in 2007, when the company introduced an 80GB PS3 (to supplant the 60GB model) absent the Emotion Engine chip.

"The current 60 GB model utilizes a hardware and solution [sic] for backwards compatibility, namely the Emotion Engine chip," said SCEA's Kimberly Otzman. "The new 80 GB PS3 will use a software solution for backwards compatibility, similar to that currently found in the PAL model."

True, some gamers reported functionality issues with the feature, and Sony eventually pulled emulation support from the PS3 entirely (a move the company then explained as part of a "PS3-first" strategy). In fact it's currently not possible to buy a PS3 brand new that lets you play PS2 games. If you want PS2 support, you're off to the used market. Only PS-original games are supported in emulation, a feature common to in all models from the very beginning.

Is this latest patent filing for something new? Or just routine followup on old technology? Patents don't always happen horse before cart. You've heard the expression "patent pending"? Sometimes the cart finds its way in front of the horse, too.

Which isn't to say this couldn't be new, or part of a strategy to bolster the PS3's appeal courtesy a firmware update down the road a bit. I've contacted Sony requesting clarification, but in the meantime, don't get your hopes up. Whether the patent is for something more comprehensively compatible or functionally dependable, for existing PS3 systems or future models, or just new news about old technology, is down to speculation.

PS2 Emulation Already Up And Running?

Is your PlayStation 3 running firmware greater than 2.10? Chances are it is, but did you know that apparently it’s then already capable of running PS2 games then? “PS3 is capable of running PS2 games with 100 % software emulation but the performance and compatibility is really poor,” suggests a poster on GAF*, who alleges that the emulator is present in every PS3 on the market but is currently deactivated. The thread then goes on to suggest that the current PS3 firmware has some “interesting” files on it, which are presumably linked to his statement above.

This follows our news this morning that Sony have applied for a patent for a purely software-based solution to the PS2 emulation issue and ties in nicely with the job advert from last January for a software engineer at Sony Japan to work on exactly this. TheSixthAxis has also learnt this lunchtime that the bottleneck isn’t the Emotion Engine, which is already up and running, it’s the Graphics Synthesizer that’s causing the headaches. If Sony can crack this, then surely that would open the gates to downloadable PS2 games over the Store, as we suggested this morning.

I jus copped this ps3 for $300.. I know the bundle with MGS4 and Killzone2 would've been a better deal but his can play ps2 games on it and that's a big deal to me because i already got a pretty decent library of ps2 RPG games that i bought a while back.

Anyone know how much 4foot HDMI cables be runnin atm? I need the cheapest one i can find at best buy or frys or w/e..

I also jus rented UnCharted yesterday.. Shit is coo.. I'am jus hopein that it starts off slow cuz the only people i've been able to shoot are the pirates at the beginning of the game lol.. I'am gonna be pissed if it's all jumping around and no shooting.

cheap HDMI cables
I'm not waiting for it to be shipped tho lol.. Guess ill jus go down to best buy and look, i dont even know why i asked hah..

But yeah, So far UnCharted has been pretty dope.. I see now that there is indeed action in this game.. The story seems like it's gonna be a good one too, i love storys that keep ya' on you're toes and move the plot forward like that.. The graphics are pretty damn good too.. The puzzles in the game are easy enough for me to solve, but still fun enough to keep my interested.. And i really don't like Tomb-Raiderish games where you spend a lot of time scaling obstacles, but i can see there is gonna be plenty of gunplay in this game too, which is something i was worried about.. And i'am not even gonna lie, the whole climbing walls thing is actually pretty damn fun.

Only thing i don't like about UnCharted so far is the control scheme, but i suppose the controls are like that for any ps3 game.. It just feels weird hitting a flat button to fire my gun instead of hittin a trigger button to do so.. Useing the ps3 controller really makes me appreciate the xbox 360's controller a lot more lol.

btw does the story stay strong? please tell me the story stays strong in this game..
