Being from Seattle its funny to see all the band wagon fans jump on for the NFC west Championship game. Whats even funnier is to see all the Steeler "fans" jump on after all of this. When they were 7-4 nobody said shit. Now look...

Yeah no kidding. I don't think there is a single person on the Siccness who is actually from Pittsburgh, so all these Californians posing as Steeler fans, even if you think you are, you aren't, so you won't get 1/4 the amount of joy watching them in the Bowl than I will the Seahawks.

But for the folks who are just picking Pitt to win, that's a different story. But all the people pretending to be their fans, they are horseshit.

I don't think the majority of people picking the Steelers on this board are fans, they just think they'll win. That being said though, the Steelers have one of the largest fanbases nationwide and prove it every time there's an away game..

Here's my brother in Denver reppin' the Steelers and LA..

Vamps has always been a Steelers fan, ain't tryin to ride nuts or nothin but he's always repped them on this board since way back. Ya'll must be newbies or somethin.

Anyway I don't think there's anything wrong with liking a team from another part of the country. Here in the Bay we got a lot of Cowboys fans, Steelers fans, Redskins fans, Bears fans, etc. As long as you didn't become a fan of theirs this year or when they started winning, then ain't nothing wrong with it at all!!

Yeah but the problem is they are going to pick a team with a rich and glorious history, so therefore it doesn't really matter what the team's record was the year they started following them, b/c the fact that that person even knew about them is contingent upon that team having a lot of success in the past.

I mean look at the teams you named, they've got (by my quick head count) 13 Super Bowls between them! I think you kind of proved my point there.

Obviously folks who were born/raised in an area and then moved (like myself) are a different story and perfectly OK so long as they stay with the original team the whole time.

And the thing about these people also is that they aren't connected to that team in any way, they get probably 25% of the joy that folks with more legitimate connections do when the team does well. I kind of feel sorry for them in this respect.

Not rooting for the team in your area means that you are probably horseshit, it's a very very lazy way to go about things. I personally have very little respect for folks who do this.

No those teams I named were just random teams I chose from the top of my head. It didn't have nothing to do with having a rich history or anything like that, I just chose them randomly. I've seen all types of fans here in the Bay (and I'll even name some teams who suck if it makes you happy) like Vikings fans, Cardinals fans, Bills fans, Chargers fans, Saints fans, Jets fans and the list goes on... Now some of the folks I've known who root for these teams are from these cities, but the MAJORITY of them were born and raised in the Bay and they still rooting for a team in another part of the country, and I'll say it again there ain't nothin wrong with that at all!!

How do you know they get only 25% of the joy when the team does well? For all you know they could be even more happier than the folks who live in the local area. It all depends on the fan...how much he likes his team, and how much he likes football in general. It doesn't depend on how close you live to that area.

If he's a die-hard Packers fan (just an example) but he doesn't live nowhere near Green Bay, he could be even more enthusiastic when they win, then someone who was born and raised in Green Bay all their life. Like I said it depends on the individual, and their love for the game.

Naw it ain't lazy at all, it's a personal taste. Some folks like the teams from their city and some folks don't, it's a personal choice. If you think that they're "horseshit" or what not, than that's your opinion. But there ain't nothing wrong with it, and it's not being lazy either.

And for the record, I'm from the Bay and I'm a Raiders fan, so I ain't rooting for a team in another part of the country. I just don't think there's anything wrong with it.

It'as at 4 points right now, so I would take the line too. If it goes above that, I think I might just take the spread.

I kind of see what xpanther is saying...if you've never been to say...Pittsburgh, don't have any family from there, or don't know anyone from there, how do you become a fan of them?

OK...you liked a Steeler player growing up and you've liked the team ever since. Or your Dad was a fan and now you are. That's cool...the Steelers are your favorite team.

If they win the Super Bowl though, I don't see how anyone that has never been there can have the same satisfaction or appreciation than someone who has actually lived there...gone to all the games...suffered in the snow, rain, etc.

Like that picture that Vamps put up with his brother reppin' the Steelers and LA. In Pittsburgh...it's all about Pittsburgh.

It just isn't the same.

WHO THE FUCK SAID THEY WERE A STEELER FAN, I SURE AINT BUT I KNOW THEY GONNA WIN AND ITS NOT HATING ITS KNOWLEDGE???? THE AFC IS FAR SUPERIOR THEN THE NFC, STEELERS ARE ON A WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL THEN ANY TEAM THE SEAHAWKS HAVE PLAYED, I CANT WAIT TO THE SEE THE SEAAAAAHAWKS GET BEAT DOWN CUZ YALL ARE OVERDOING IT WAY TO MUCH, IF YALL WERE IN THE AFC YALL PROBABLY EITHER WOULD HAVE NOT MADE IT TO THE PLAYOFFS OR LOST YOUR FIRST PLAYOFF GAME, WITH THAT BEING SAID THE BENGALS PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEAT THE STEELERS IF PALMER DIDNT GET HURT, BENGALS WOULD SHIT ON THE HAWKS, SO WOULD DENVER, INDI, PATRIOTS, KC, SAN DIEGO, AND 2 OF THOSE TEAMS DIDNT EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.

LOL....i guess...its sports...take how you want it..."hating" is apart of sports...hating your rival team(Raiders,Broncos,Rams)..hating a player that did one of your dudes wrong on your squad(Carl Everett)...hating a coach for betraying your team(Nate McMillian)....

Its along the same line as you hatin a rival gang...for no reason other than they are your rival...but i aint gonna fight noone over the Hawks...let alone pull a burner on a cat who aint with my logo...

Im far from a hater...and i give props where props are due...had Denver won....id be givin it up to em...and tearin em apart like i am with Pitt...

Its sports...lighten up....

Like in your scenario, I became a fan after watching Greg Lloyd in the early 90's..

The mistake people make is by me saying I'm a Steelers fan that I'm saying I'm a fan of Pittsburgh. I'm not. I'm born and raised in LA and that's what's in my blood. But the reason why the Steelers are so popular nationwide is because of their organization and their philosophy. They pride themselves on working hard, being humble and overpowering their opponents. A lot of people, especially from working class cities identify with that. That's what the majority of LA is..

If the Steelers win the Superbowl my joy comes from investing 10 years of my life in rooting for a team and seeing them overcome all the obstacles they've had to get here. The Steelers are different than most teams. Change is slow and seldom. They've had Bill Cowher 14 years. Jerome 10. Their logo/uniform hasn't changed since 1963. They've had 2 coaches, 2 owners from the same family. It's a team built on tradition. It's not hard to be a fan when they stand for the same things you do. It runs deeper than just football for me..
