I heard of a few groups/artists going to KMEL DJ's, (I won't name names) with anywhere from $1,500-$10,000 in cash in exchange for radio spins. Does anyone know the exact amount needed to add a single at one of our local stations? How many times will they play it, and how many requests must it get per day in order to stay in rotation? I've heard of an artist paying a DJ $1,500 for airplay and his song only got 2 spins. If you don't want to drop names pm me and let me know..I have an artist from the bay thats hotter than most and needs to be heard but kmel wont play his single unless we pay, theres got to be another way in, feedback/suggestions?

A song is like a commercial for an album, you have to pay the radio station for your commercial. I suggest you hit up some college stations.

Yeah looks like i have to go that route or pay...either way thats the state of hip hop and the world we live in I guess..What we here on corporate radio, the trends and the theme that everyone follows ironically is all paid for by corporations, we just follow along like sheep thinking what is on the radio is cool cuz its on the radio. Makes me wonder about these movements we have going on in hip hop.

Heres an exerpt from a long article on Clear Channel and Bush's contrlo of it:

"In many ways, Clear Channel has become the radio version of Fox News: You can find virtually nothing in its musical playlist or agenda that is not consistent with the Bush Cartel public relations agenda.

With increased deregulation, the mutual financial benefits that the Bush Cartel and the owners of Clear Channel have enjoyed will just be another representation of the growing cancer of corporate socialist cronyism, in which the crony media barons use their stations and papers to advance the political agenda of the Bush administration -- and contribute to Republican coffers. In turn, the Bush Cartel takes steps -- such as increased deregulation -- that enable increased profitability among the Bush Cartel media cronies."

This is disgusting..we out here being brainwashed and don't even know it. I have nothing against the hyphy movement and love what its doing for the bay, but I feel it is an example of Bush's plan to keep the lower class where they are, and going dumb is exactly what he wants us to do..Therefore artists with substance, originality and something to say are now being locked out of commercial radio..Artists such as 2pac, Nas, and others like Dead Prez that have a more democratic viewpoint are rarely heard on the radio nowadays while newcomers from the bay that aint hyphy and have a message are totally locked out of the game..the game is fucked up right now and kmel and other clear channel stations are losing a portions of its audience, the real niggaz..hip hop is dead

And money is the root of all evil driving this process since radio will accept payment for play for only certain types of artists..thanks for the feedback homie

The first rule of payola is dont talk about it in public forums or in public period. Dont run your mouth if you do pay. its like an unwritten rule and with the FCC actually prosecuting labels and radio stations for taking part in payola, the spot is hot. Don't be nieve, go read books on the music industry, The Death of R&B by Nelson George, Everything you'd better know about the record industry by kashif and gary greenberg. Basically these books will put you up on game about the industry to an extent and how this shit works. Its all about relationships. there is no clear cut official cost to spin ratio. Get out there get some quality shit mastered and mixed properly like blood said and hit the streets with a plan. Get at the important DJ's, websites, magazines, execs and influential people in the streets with wax and/or cd's and get your grind on.

I used to think you had to pay for spins, but not exactly. I was in rotation on Kmel for about 6 weeks (Song="Mash and Skate") and I didn't pay 1 dime. So I dont always believe that anymore.

Man you can go ahead and keep thinkin that way, do a little more reading and educate yourself and you'll see what I'm talkin about, you supposedly bein from oakland then u should know about the black panthers, and the cointelpro movement, and the republicans constant tactics of corruption..damn now we got brothaz sidin with the enemy, makes me sad...read between the lines homie....radio is big business..keeping blacks and minorities focused on goin dumb, thizzin, and drinkin is the theme of our culture right now and is keepin us down...all im sayin is why dont we here more positive shit or rappers with lyrical ability that can put us up on game like pac, ice cube, nas, jadakiss..why does radio get behind crunk/hyphy 110%, why are they using payola to rape the artform? how can the vans song, and yaddada song be on the air and not yukmouth or the jacka? money, power, and poliiticis...and republicans use corporate brainwashing for their own profit while the gap between lower and upper class widens...you really have to read deep into to it understand..so like i said JP go get a book and start analyzin the situation before u tell someone to shut up, re-think your purpose on earth...
