in all seriousness, IMO wrestling as u all know is just entertainment, if you were to watch it just to try to see something "real" and compare it to UFC, boxing, or football (as in this thread)or what not it aint gonna work, you have to accept as it is as entertainment, nothin more nothin less, its no different than a normal scripted TV show. I used to think the same shit, oh "thats gay as hell, men in tights, fake, predetermined" blah blah well no shit, but u just gotta roll with it and except it if u wanna actually wanna enjoy it somewhat.
very true! with that said its still NFL > WWE

I know it's entertainment, I was just defending football from the idiot(s) who were bad mouthing it since one of the very first posts and no one had said anything bad about wrestling. And this is coming from someone who's done submission wrestling.

and you're investing time into a "sport" where they are pretending to fight and winner is predetermined.
If by "investing time" you mean I "watch the show" then... sure. But like I said before, to knock wrestling by saying it's fake was ludicrous to me even when I was in third grade. Like I said, if you want to come up to me and tell me that wrestling is wack because you're "old" now... Well turn off Adult Swim, or any other scripted show for that matter, because that shit is "fake" and for kids. Apparently the only shows a "real" adult should watch are news programs and sports.

Your logic is flawed, you're talking about cartoons, that's not sports so pick a better comparison if you wanna get smart.
The only thing flawed is your understanding of my point. None of us sat here trying to claim that wrestling is real and somehow "better" than sports. It doesn't make sense to say "that's wack because it's fake" and then you go pay 15 bucks at a movie theater to watch an animated blue bitch swing from fucking vines.

What planet are you living on where something is "wack" unless it's documented fact?
I think it is more lame to be a fanatic of guys who adopt a persona and dress in tights exchanging dialogue when the winner of the match is already determined.
How random are the outcomes of your favorite sitcom?

It seems like the real problem here, the people who are having a hard time accepting that wrestling is an entertainment show, are you and the others saying wrestling is "wack" because it's fake. Why am I the one here having to explain that to you after you talk about it like it's real? You wouldn't talk about the Facts of Life like it were real, would you?

And if you want to talk about fake shit, and people making up personas, let me know who your favorite rapper is and I'll show you a dude who fakes his persona and raps about shit he never did, yet somehow you can make the distinction that music is just entertainment.

And... did I just see you compare Greco-Roman wrestling to WWE? On that note, it is less gay to be a fan of WWE with people faking personas than it is to be a fan of greco roman wrestling. Greco Roman is just guys wiping their cocks on eachothers buttholes in tights, and ITS FUCKING REAL.

How is it more gay to get paid to be a famous WWE wrestler than it is to wipe your dick all over a dude in front of your friends and classmates? Then to top it off your teammates get to smack your ass as a congratulations.

LoL. I dunno man.

PEOPLE SAY WRESTLING IS FAKE SO THEY DON'T WATCH... BUT I ALWAYS SAY MOVIES ARE FAKE BUT YOU STILL WATCH THAT.. THE POINT IS IF YOU WATCH WRESTLING WITH MOVIE/CINEMA EYES YOU WOULD ENJOY IT JUST AS MUCH BECAUSE IN WATCHING FILM YOU NOT INTERESTED IN LOCATING ALL THE FLAWS AND WHATEVER THE FAKE SCENES THAT TAKE PLACE IN FILM.. CAUSE IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY THE NFL ASKED THE WWE TO START THERE MONDAY NIGHT SHOW AT 8 INSTEAD OF 7 DUE TO LOW RATINGS FOR MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL DURING THE MONDAY NIGHT WARS... SO THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING

Highly doubtful.

Link?

By the way, the NFL SHITS on all sports, including all brands of "sports entertainment." It always has, it always will.

The proof definitely is in the pudding. Look at how big the Super Bowl is. There is a reason for that.

This shit just got blown out of proportion, I was just making a case for football when Zer0media started bad mouthing it. I like football better than wrestling, it's a matter of preference, I will however say that wrestling isn't same since its WWF days with The Rock, Stone Cold etc.

And last but not least, yeah movies and cartoons are fake but are they sports? no. I just prefer the old fashioned fight til you win with no predetermined winner. These are all my personal views and opinions don't have to agree with them. However let's not bad mouth Football and act like Wrestling is manlier and not for little kids, because last I checked most of us were all wrestling fans at a young age.

Nah it's true. I'd say it was sometime between 98-99. The NFL offered to pay Vince millions of dollars to move to Tuesday night and Vince told them to fuck off.

why is this still a thread?
I dont know. Maybe Im bored? Maybe Im keeping it up as a reminder to the new guys? It already made one guy delete an accidental post about football or baseball, I forget. Maybe I just want to see everyones opinion. Maybe its a good way to bring in the other folks?

It has been a good debate though for both sides in my opinion.

Maybe itll just get buried into obscurity?

course it does^^ but damn this thread sucks, we are comparing NFL with the WWE lol wtf
Agreed, but let's not forget the reason the comparison is even being discussed. Someone tried to say wrestling is better than football, but the popularity of the both of them is not even comparable. I can go out to the grocery store, the car wash, the theater, the mall, a burger shack, wherever, and I guarantee there are going to be football fans in every spot. There are many wrestling fans, but the frequency in which you encounter them is microscopic compared to the frequency in which you run into football fans. Take a look at merchandise sales. You see NFL apparel so often you probably don't even take notice anymore. How often do you truly see wrestling merchandise?

My point is the show the NFL puts on is more entertaining than any wrestling episode, which is why the NFL experiences success that the WWE could never dream of. There is a reason the NFL grosses far more revenue than the WWE could ever imagine. Off the top of my head I can think of a shitload of die-hard football fans, but zero die-hard wrestling fans. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I even know any casual wrestling fans at this point. Back in the day, during the Attitude Era and the Monday Night Wars, I knew plenty of wrestling fans. I was also in high school, so take that for what it's worth.

If wrestling were truly as good or better than football, it would have more of a following and Vince McMahon would be able to broadcast on any network he chooses. He could even make Wrestlemania a Super Bowl-like event, free for viewers, because the advertisement revenue would shit on the pay-per-view revenue he currently receives. With more viewers, companies pay more to advertise, which is why the Super Bowl ads are the best of the year - these companies are paying so much money, they make sure they put together entertaining ads that people are actually going to want to watch.

In terms of comparing the two products, I agree it can't be done. One is a sport, the other is more of a sitcom. Apples to oranges. My whole point is the majority of viewers would not choose wrestling over football, and that is the only comparison that can be made.

I still have my doubts, but now that I think about it, I can see it happening for the simple fact that wrestling fans who are also football fans probably wouldn't watch Monday Night Football over WWF (at that time, anyway) if their favorite team wasn't playing or if it's just a couple teams that they don't have any interest in. But put wrestling in the same time slot that those fans' favorite team is playing and there's no way wrestling wins.

a reminder of what? if you make a non wrestling thread it will stay here and not get deleted?

This is not the football forum. the only "new" people coming here are football fans to talk about why football is better

Seems like pointless back and forth to me :ermm:
