I got a video production company. I was looking at the type of videos that I shoot they all hood videos I tryed to do step out the box and do videos for RnB and hiphop cats, but it's hard to cross over. Artist in the hood be doing what they have to, to make it in the music biz so it nothing for them to drop a rack on a video. Alot of artist will do a video befor they drop a album or a mix tape just to blast it on the web.

im not knockin uing video as a means of advertisement or exposure, i agree its a great form to showcase your music, but when your music is subpar, your flow is wack and unoriginal and then you drop a few racks on a video, its just adding another grain of sand onto the rap music desert and making it harder for outsiders (especially A&R's) to find the diamond in the rough...

similar to the way compilations oversaturated the market in the late 90's and the start of the new millenium...videos are doin that now.

Dub, got any work done i could check out...?

I don't believe it's hard to cross over. You just got find the people / artist who are open minded and want to build a worldwide fan base. I can't knock the hood videos, that's where it all starts, but it's about where you want to go with it. The world don't want to hear how real you keep it & where u live. They simply want to be entertained.

Too many people bash on the mainstream, but we're fighting an uphill battle and it's more than crystal clear what the world wants to hear. Us underground artist are too focused on keeping it real. We keep wanting to force feed it to the world and it's pretty evident that it's just not happening. If your independent and your making "guap" and your content, cool. Fame goes hand in hand with a bigger fan base which equals more money & bigger opportunities (movies etc.). If you just care about the money, then quit rapping & get yourself a great paying job, because it's really no different than the average Joe making bank.

With that being said, I honestly feel the hood videos are going in the same direction as the underground scene, it's all starting to look & sound the same. Artist are again going in the same direction & none of them are stepping outside the box and are trying to be different.

That falls into the category of being a follower, but there are those who dare try something different. And just like all the albums that we're thought to of made a huge impact & only went double lead...

It's all trial and error & we try again using a different method by changing things.

I didn't read any of the past posts, but based on the thread's title here is my 2 cents:

It was bound to happen! Technology thrives on consumer products to be budget friendly. It has it's many pros and cons, but you just have to adapt with the times and work 10x's more harder.

This million $$$ music industry is becoming more and more independent each day. It's the best time to be an independent artist.

So, at the end of the day good music is good music and it will promote itself virally. AND a shitty visual, not in HD, on youtube is just not tolerable anymore.

^^^agree on the tech aspect... however videos that create the most buzz virally are usually the stupid ones, unless your a known figure or have a following no one is going to be looking for YOU. So in essence its still pretty hard to weed out good music and videos..

point being Lil B, weak ass nigga, shit-loads of videos, not taking nothing away from dude but he puts out videos out like crazy, so like him or not he gets more buzz than more deserving artist...

comparing someone to Colin Tilley is kinda pointless. he gets a minimum of like 14k just for directing now. hes worked on video for: Young Jeezy, Usher, Ludacris and Justin Bieber. if you wanna make a legit comparison bring up razor or aris jerome
Eh it's not hard to get that quality you can buy an HD camara and any student at academy of art can do that type of editing. It's really not that big a deal anymore. It's not like the early 90's. Now days anybody can make a high quality video with minimum costs.

thats a huge generalization. the type of time and thought that goes into making a video look high quality is alot more than people think. its not just a HD camera and a random student. trust me, Tilley has a lot of skill. im not saying its impossible to match or top what he does, but its definitely not a easy thing to do.
