^^That's why I wish HBO would get rid of compubox just like Showtime because the fans that don't sit down and score the fight round for round will let the statistics make their decision for them. I didn't think Floyd landed nearly as many as compubox suggested and I thought there was quite a few shots that were landed/blocked on/by Oscar's gloves but were counted as connects. I felt there was alot of early rounds that were so close as to go either way so I saw it as a close fight. If you seen both guys in the post-fight conference you wouldn't have thought each guy landed more than 20 shots on each other.

For me... I didn't judge the fight on compubox numbers... but the numbers helped. I scored it round for round. Oscar looked great in the 2nd round.. but Floyd caught on and adjusted and Oscar was done. The only time Oscar would get off is when he cut the ring off and had Mayweather on the ropes. But he was missing (like when he fought Pernell Whitaker). Once off of the ropes De La Hoya didn't do anything to Floyd. Floyd on the other hand was landing crisp, flush shots to De La Hoya's head/ear throughout the fight when they were in the middle of the ring. Flody was landing right hand leads like nothing. They were bouncin' off of De La Hoya's dome the whole fight. That's what won Mayweather the fight. His boxing skills. And I know y'all caught that flush counter punch that Floyd landed on Oscar's jaw that made Oscar's knees buckle. Oscar was swinging wildly and barely landing any. That's why he lost. The judges weren't impressed with his strategy.

We saw what Floyd did, no one is denying that he got his punches in.
I'm saying that Floyd hardly did this on a frequent basis.
He didn't push the fight on Oscar like he's done in his previous wins.
Some of you want to compare this fight with his last win over Baldomir, and that's a very bad comparison.
Floyd had the same gameplan in both fights and perhaps this is where some of you cats are getting confused.
His gameplan may have worked against De La Hoya much like it did against Baldomir but he failed to execute his gameplan on a consistent basis.
All these crisp, flush, counter shots (when they did land) that you're talking about amount to about half a 12 round fight's worth of action.

@ Tony, we can probably agree that we were seeing things differently throughout the fight. I did see Floyd land some crisp hard shots but I also saw quite a few of his shots land on Oscar's gloves. I also believe the speed of Floyd deceived some people into thinking that most of them were landing when they weren't. If he landed nearly as many as compubox suggested while wearing Reyes gloves, Oscar would have probably looked a whole lot worse than he did after the fight. I also thought Oscar got some great body work in, which is commonly overlooked by judges. He also landed some hard crisp jabs and even got his right hand through more than I expected. I don't believe it was as one sided as some are making it out to be.

Mayweather's performance was a Masterpiece against a "STACKED DEC." Oscar promoted this fight....99.99% of the crowd was for him.....Oscar wanted Mayweather at 154...Oscar wanted to pick the gloves....Oscar had the referee he wanted...the judges he wanted....It was on Cinco de Mayo...Oscar was at least 10-12 pounds heavier than Mayweather at fight night (oscar's 160 to Mayweather's 148)... Oscar was 3 inches taller than Mayweather....and Oscar has fought at 154 of more for the last 5 years and this is Mayweather's 1st fight at this weight.....

And in spite of all that, Oscar's crying that he didn't get the "decision?????" That he felt he "hurt" Mayweather ? That he had the more crisp punches ??

OSCAR SHOULD HAVE KNOCKED MAYWEATHER OUT.... PERIOD !!!! What else does he need to win !!
Mayweather neutralize Oscar....which in turn, neutralized the crowd. Thee crowd cheered desperately for Oscar.
Oscar is the most over-rated fighter in history. He got counted out by an older fighter (Hopkins). Got beaten by a lighter and smaller fighter (Mayweather).

They gave him the fight against Pernell Whitaker, Miquel Gonzalez and Felix Sturm....And he got beat twice by Mosley.

Oscar had more control of the fight outside the ring than he had inside the ring against Mayweather. Oscar should be ashamed of himself ! He's more hype, than substance. I've been saying that for years.

The only reason HBO, Vegas, caters to him is because of the Latino crowd($$$) he's pulling in. Other than that , Oscar's all hype., imagery, with smoke and mirrors and illusions and his fan base suffers from delusions.

To stand there and "sell" everybody that if he beats Mayweather, he's the best pound for pound in the world, and his business partners Berhard Hopkins( who knocked him out) and Mosley ( beat him twice) standing on the same stage with him at the weigh in, shows you how hype can distort everyone's reality about Oscar.
Just shows you how people will suck up to him for the $$$$$. Why won't Oscar avenge his loss to Hopkins ? Maybe because Oscar doesn't want to get "stretched out " like he did last time.

Oscar made his bread and butter beating up no bodies. He also makes his bread and butter losing to the best !! He's still the Golden Boy $$$$....but he gets his butt kicked by A-list fighters.

Larry Merchant said it best...Cinco de Mayo was...... M-A-Y-W-E-A-T-H-E-R !!

PPV telecast sets all time record

HBO Sports reported today that 2.15 million pay-per-view buys and $120 million in pay-per-view revenue was generated from last Saturday’s mega fight showdown featuring Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. In a fight that set the all-time pay-per-view record by eclipsing the previous mark by a sizable margin of 160,000 buys as well as establishing a new mark for revenue from a pay-per-view telecast, Mayweather scored a split decision victory and captured De La Hoya’s junior middleweight title. The showdown produced 1,225,000 buys from cable systems and 925,000 buys from satellite homes throughout the 50 states.

so thats $120million payperview plus how much in gate money?

A person close to the promotion said De La Hoya would end up making about $45 million for the fight and Mayweather just over $20 million. That person requested anonymity because the promoters did not want official figures released.

The $45 million would be the biggest purse paid to a fighter, higher than the $35 million purses Tyson and Holyfield reportedly were paid for the infamous "Bite Fight."

The reason is that, to the casual boxing fan, who's definition of seeing a great fight, worth the money, is seeing someone get knocked the fuck out, or two guys beating each other into a bloody pulp. Just the way it is.

I have to agree, Floyd's victory isn't really going to change his popularity that much.

Fans don't pay just because someone is undefeated, they pay to either see someone they love, or someone they absolutely hate, and Floyd is somewhere in the middle, maybe leaning towards hate.
