Now this is funny.... Oscar wasn't all that old when he was talking about shutting Flody's mouth. Oscar even said himself that he's a better fight now than he was back in his prime. He said he's a better fight because he's wiser. He said it on the Best Damn Sport Show.

Now that Oscar got whooped he's all of a sudden an old over the hill fighter. Some people kill me with these BS excuses.
Tony, you have to understand that they are trying to SELL the fight, so of course they're going to be talking shit to eachother and saying that they're in the best shape of their life. How else do you expect them to act?

But we as fans know that Oscar is not even close to his prime any more. He's been going downhill for a while, and in his prime, he would have destroyed the Floyd Mayweather of today, no contest.

Obviously I can't say it as a fact, but Oscar in his prime would beat Pretty Boy right now IMO...

I have to agree, Floyd's victory isn't really going to change his popularity that much.

Fans don't pay just because someone is undefeated, they pay to either see someone they love, or someone they absolutely hate, and Floyd is somewhere in the middle, maybe leaning towards hate.
Sup 2-0,

Floyd can easily sell seats with his skill just so long as he's willing to please the fans. Floyd would me more popular if he only fought a little more aggressive.
Casual boxing fans don't appreciate boxing, they want to see action.

Floyd will get paid but he's not going to get nearly the amount of what he thinks he deserves (unless he fights oscar again).

If Floyd fought with more HEART and passion or at least made it seem like he was, combined with his skill, then he'd have a massive fan base. That's what the all time greats understood - they knew they were there to entertain and not just simply win. Floyd talks a lot, has grand entrances, etc., but in the ring he doesn't really entertain (unless he's knocking foo's out). You got to either do what you say, be more aggressive, or be like Sugar Ray Leonard and dance, flont, talk shit, etc. get the crowd involved.

I see yalls points but I don't agree with them. Mayweather fights sort of like Bernard Hopkins. They have a defensive style and they don't like to go in there and get hit much. That style is very successful. Bernard had 20 straight title defenses fighting like that and Mayweather is 38-0. So why go in there, brawl and risking getting knocked out? I find Floyd's fights very entertaining.

i love fights with action but it dont hafta be someone gettin knocced out i wanna see some good exchanges goin on fact is i wish i had gotten into boxing to tell the truth. but others with knocc out power like Roy Jones Jr didnt put everyone he fought on the canvas and his fights were really entertaining and you know when Jr wanted to he knocced fools out (except Tarver) but a Jr in his prime woulda knocced Tarver out

I love watching Mayweather and Hopkins. But I love boxing. Real boxing fans will appreciate a boxers skills, like both fighters mentioned. The argument is that the average fan will typically find them a little boring. The average fan isn't going to appreciate great defense or a great chess match, they are only going to be appreciated by tons of action. Thus Mayweather will never be as popular and make as much money as a Oscar de la hoya

^That's true too! People used to get pissed when they ordered Tyson fights because they used to be over so quick. I will never forget that fight with Bruce swole Seldon. This fool went down and didn't even get hit with a flush shot.
