Basically I think the perfect example of a straight classic ALBUM would be Makaveli's Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory. Every song works together, when I listen to that album I feel like I'm listening in on Pac's mind from early 96 to his death. He has hard ass disses (Bomb First, Against All Odds), a few love/women songs (Toss It Up, Just Like Daddy), some introspective type of songs (Krazy, White Man'z World), a feel good song (To Live & Die In LA), one of the best metaphor songs ever (Me & My Girlfriend), and the rest left to whatever else he has to say. He hits you from every angle, it's not all hard ass mafioso shit...

And he speaks his mind. It's considered one of Pac's hardest releases ever, yet he admits to crying on the album. He SHOWED you his weaknesses, it wasn't all "I'm so hard, fuck yall, I'm the best, yall can't fuck with me"...I'm sick of every little 15 year old independent rapper talking about how hard they are. Shit's played out...

the NW is great and all, but the bay is the issue here...

Not enough serious poetry and introspection in our music. Not enough soul. Just gats, gangstas and hos.

That's my take anyway.

DEFJUX is pretty weak

i heard one song from Vordul i liked...the rest is all garbage...EL P sounds like he presses random keys on his drum machine and makes it a beat...i got beats i made just making fun of him that sound exactly like his style...easy as pie

but he did create a new subgenre of rap i guess...so i give El P his props

Everyone has their opinions, but I think Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein was hot. El-P did good with that one. Also, everything El-P did on Mr lif - I, Phantom was fuckin ill. El-P's solo might be hard to swallow, but I still thought it was pretty innovative.

I think the Def Jux engineer is tight. I love the way their new releases are mixed. In the Co Flo days, their shit was horribly mixed.
