i know there are a few cats who are replying to this thread that actually are invovled in this business, me included. So, with all this being said about unity, lets DO something about it ourselves...any ideas about that?
Shows, functions, tracks, etc. I saw a bunch of singers, hip hop cats and reggae cats get together at Britannia Arms in Downtown SJ on a Saturday afternoon, like 1:00 PM. These cats PACKED that joint, AND they were charging at the door. With minds together, and different styles gathering, success is an option. Fans from each artist comes out, and the turnout is beautiful. Don't pack a show with 5 different hyphy acts, get some hyphy, gangsta, and hip hop...and add an outside element like Reggae, it will add to the beauty of the collaboration. This includes IN THE STUDIO! If you're not mixing shit up and coming with something different, don't do it.

Also a good thing to do. I personally use instrumentals or a live band, it sounds WAY better.
thank you.
i would never pay for a concert if i suspect that the performer is just going to rap over their cd.
i might as well pay $20 just to see a rapper stand on a platform for 20 minutes.
it's insulting when money is paid to see that. cats can do what that dude did on stage in their cars.

True. It's always good to have a hype man that knows all your shit, then you don't need the lyrics.

how about cats take it back to how it was in the 90's............

back when cats was makin music and paying good money to put out a promo tape and pass it out for free...........then turn around and drop an EP for half the price..........or when they use to get shirts made from Phunky Phat Graffix and pass'em out for promotion.............

but those where the days when cats was payin atleast 100 an hour using 2 inch reels takin hours to do one song............

now cats have it much easier using there janky ass computers and cd-r's spending a lot less money and time making an album, and cats still cant do what cats was doin 15 years ago, thats sad..........

i dont know what it is.....i remember E-40 and Master P use to be in stockton slangin tapes before it was all this "bay" shit.Thats how much has changed. You cant even post anything on B.A.R.T. with out somebody bitchin and breakin the news that stockton aint in the "bay".......cats is fuckin them selves over.........some of these cats need to do there homework...........

i know imma hear backlash for this but..

videos dont mean that you should blow up.. if they're not done on a major scale. and not done at high quality... not o.k. quality , not a lil above average . top of the line videos.. to compete wit the majors, than dont expect to get major oppertunities and airtime for it. so if u did a lil coo video and got some good feedback and some recognition. hopefully u got ur business rite and it brings in more capitol so u can budget a bigger better quality video the next time around. and keep that line pushin until u have a major budget or a major connect to do a major video ... cuz why would mtv or bet or any major channel give up time to a artist who did a music video wit a handy cam and had it edited by a collage student, instead of a major who put up 50 racks for a vid. so those lower scale videos u did , if u market rite will serve theyre purpose , you tube, myspace, dvd's , promo. and other internet channels.

like somebody said earlier , no one wants to search for new artist so they stick to who they are already fans of and buy theyre music... so u have to get each fan each person to let u into theyre collection. start checkin for u. and add u to that list of artist theyre willing to listen to.,.. cuz theyres 9,000,000 new artist in the country . and the fans arent gonna take theyre time and search threw 5000 new artists cd's until they find one they like. like rae and money tree said ,dip into other parts of the business and gain connects and network that way,.. so u dont come across as the other artist out there lookin for a handout.
cuz mu fackas out here want hand out... they wanna put out minimum work minimum budget and they want major relusts and its just not gonna happen. but everyone says theyre gringn and goin hard.... and thats just not true. cuz if u were goinb hard u would be more successful.. cats is lazy.

and no one wants to put money into they shit no more.... they wanna get free beats from theyre homie and recordin theyre house threw a mbox and a $200 mic and mix it on theyre own and put it up on myspace and tellin everyone theyre a real artist and that theyre really in the game.. thats not true. i here nobody cats who put no money into theyre shit say they sound as good or better than lil wayne and 50 cent all the majors. thats crap and u lying to urself and everyone around u.

most kids and even grown men who want to be rappers were just too lazy or stupid to go to collage or get a job or a legitimate hustle.
so they think theyre gonna rich being a rapper cuz theyre homie said he's was tite wen they were drunk freestylin so now he feels like he's the shit and can blow up .

Im not sayin that no ones gonna make it .. and im not saying it could never happen for anyone. . but its gonna take a gang of money, gang of hustle, a gang of talent, a gang of network, and hard work and effort. but dont think u can go part time wit this shit and blow the fuk up.

and quality .... theres no quality control. nobody wants to no say theyr real oppinion..
everyone is back patters cuz they dont wanna be a HATER. all this hate talk.... if a dude suck and he asks u wat u think. dont tell him it sounds good cuz u dont wanna be HATER and hurt his feelings. u dont have to say it in a rude way.. but u need to tell these cats what u really think in a constructive way.... or just dont say shit... but dont tell the cat he's good. if some ones wack tell how they could get better.,.,, everyones just a backpatter. u being honest and saying ur honest oppinion doesnt make u hater... but if u dont say nothin cats is never get better. me myself is includud i like to hear real oppinions of my shit with reasons behind theyre oppinions .

and u being a dope artist is only 1/5 the battle... my reply to the "now i got a lil goin for myself... now wat?" . GO BIGGER GO HARDED or GO THE FUK HOME!!!!!!!!! lol

dont take offense,take notes

I agree 100% with everything you said except this part. It's like Trax made that Super Hyphy beat on a cheap ass Casio keyboard, and now he's movin' on up to bigger and better things. Fact of the matter is, you have to start somewhere. A lot of cats don't have the bread to hit major studios and pay for beats that sound like everybody else's shit. With that said, what you use to record doesn't matter, as long as you know how to work it.

It's like Michael Jackson recording Billie Jean on a Shure SM57 mic. It's a $99 mic used mostly for instruments, but his engineers knew how to flip it and use it to their advantage. I agree that if you want "Free beats" or "Free time", go home or go buy your own shit and do it yourself. But as far as recording goes, a not so expensive mic and an MBox are powerful tools if you know what you're doing with whatever programs you're using.

Other than that, I agree that a lot of cats are just looking for handouts...and they think they should get everything for nothing...which is a bruise on those of us that work hard on our craft.

Fasho. I feel that.. But who ever told u traxx made super hyphy on a casio is a damn liar. He made it on a triton. Same triton he made almost all those singles on.. And he had a manager. And had been bangin beats out for years and produced a whole group album which he was part called "the high" so that's false.

And yeah micheal jackson did ur a sm57. But I was recorded into a $300.000 analog bourd wit 10's of thousands of preamps de essers and compressors. And a acoustically treated room that costed prolly 50 to 100 grand.
and not to mention the outboard gear.

With out high quality shit ur music is neva gonna sound to its full potential. Now I will say . A m box protols and a cheap mic recording at home does serve a purpose. Which means for u to capture I deas rite wen they xome to u. And for ruff drafts and pre production. And maybe some mixtape shit is ur not trippin off the quality soundin bad. But than once u have ur song just how u want it. And have worked out all the kinks and u believe in the music.... find a great studio at a coo price and go lay down the vocals in to gear that will do ur music justice. And mbox has got to be the shittiest piece of gear protools has.

And stduio time and mixing can be a lil expensive. And maybe if u willing to drop a lil dough u find a good studio that will cut u a deal on the price. But so is them jordans u rockin. So is the jewelry cats be buyin. Them rims is expensive. Than fly gear u got on cast u grip. That 100 u blew on the bar. All coulda payed for an album and than sum
All I'm sayin is if u believe in urself. Than invest in urself. Just like u wound want a invester or a label to do.

What Rae/ Sydal/Money Tree/ Ox /Mc Gruff said was all game this is shit u need to know... 5 years ago there was no on online droppin game like this.. Look how fortunate u got it as an artist now. Studios in the home programs to do graphics and editing your audio. With all that was said the only thing these artist haven't done for u is wipe your ass . But don't forget its ALL HUSTLE.. U can have the dopest rhymes/beats/cd whatever.. None of that shit means anything if u don't put sum HUSTLE behind it !! Example 408inc.com. People out our area where and are still bitching we get no love in the southbay!!! Its all love @ 408inc its made for people to display and converse. If u want your section to get the respect u believe it deservse take action initiate the change.. Be come the world u want to see out there.. Don't let the hate, the negativity make u lose focus of your goal... like I said theresa tons of experiance and knowledge those folks mentioned above.. Apply what ur capable of doing even if u haven't attempted b4..if music is your passion or calling or avenue to a better life then don't short change yourself... u get out of it what u put in. Work Hard earn what u get and no one can take that away.......
U control your life and if u want to succeed who the fuck is gonna stop you!!!!!

I use an MBOX only as an interface, but record into Logic which has, in my opinion, major advantages over Pro Tools. Thing is, like I said, you can record shit at the house and mix it down...take it to a studio to get mastered and you're good.

It's like my boy told me @ Expressions. They have million dollar consoles, but it doesn't matter because the cats recording you don't know their shit. The same dude takes small shit to his house and records masterpieces. So, it's all in what you know and how well you know it.
