Here We Go!

Mercury News

A week after insulting members of a drum and bugle corps on and off the air, KYLD-FM's (94.9) once highly rated ``Morning Doghouse'' show has been taken off the air.

The move also comes just over a month after shock jocks J.V. and Elvis, and producer Hollywood, helped initiate a student walkout in San Jose that possibly could have cost the East Side Union High School District thousands of dollars.

``The station has taken into account feedback from the community in recent weeks in coming to this decision,'' wrote Dennis Martinez, KYLD's program director, in a brief news release with little detail.

Station management would not comment further, and attempts to reach the DJs by phone were unsuccessful.

The often controversial and racy Doghouse was started by hosts J.V. (Jeffray Vandergrift) and Elvis Medina at San Jose's Hot 97.7, moving to San Francisco when that station was sold.

On April 21, representatives of the San Francisco Renegades Drum and Bugle Corps sent representatives to the morning show to promote an annual fundraiser. Lisa Johnson, a corps board member, said the team of Elvis and another station employee made lewd remarks to her and leered.

In a letter to the station's local management and its owners, Clear Channel Communications, of San Antonio, Johnson wrote, ``This was not `on air shtick.' This was tantamount to an ambush, an assault to Miss Kinoshita and myself, prior to going on the air to promote our show.'' Robin Kinoshita is a fellow board member of the group.

Then, according to the letter, Doghouse members lambasted one of the women with the corps, saying: ``You joined color guard because you were too fat to be a cheerleader.''

In late March, after the San Jose student walkout over planned teacher layoffs was under way, station managers tried to discourage the action when they realized the school district would lose money if students did not show up for classes.

The Doghouse's career has been one of continual ups and downs. The show, which came to San Francisco in 1995, has raised money over the years for various charities. But its members have also been charged with vandalism for a stunt that involved defacing a city sign for Castro Valley, and with illegally disposing of chemical wastes for a stunt in which members doused themselves with oil and then poured it down a drain.

Clear Channel Communications has been vocal in efforts to clean up the airwaves, the most visible effect of which was dropping the syndicated Howard Stern show from its stations, despite his high ratings. Stern was fined more than $1 million by the Federal Communications Commission.

Similarly, the Doghouse has had to clean up its act. In the past, the duo broadcast adult sexual content while marketing itself in junior high schools.

The Doghouse's ratings have dropped significantly in the past year. In the most recent winter ratings, released this week, the show was in 10th place for listeners over 12 years old. Over the show's past decade, it was often in the top five.

I can't believe that show lasted as long as it did... I remember hearing that show 4 years ago... I know I'm too old for that shit, but that show was based on nothing but disrespect...

sad thing is, Clear Channel would never have fired the fags if the ratings would have been higher

Speaking of corporate radio... does Kmel's On the Block start tonight???

*Warning Long post*

I WAS a loyal listener of the dog house back in the day, but im glad to say FUCK EM. Sucks that dudes lost jobs and what not, but the dog house was a bunch of fuckin bitches that got what they deserved............

My reason for thinking that they are bitches is this; 2 or 3 years back there was the incident with Carlos Mencia after his standup routine at the dog house comedy jam. Before that the dog house loved Carlos and praised him for being a dope controversial comedian which he is. Before Carlos's routine the dog house did some fuckin stupid ass shit @ a COMEDY show. They brought out some blind chick and did a bunch of fuckin preaching about feeding off the energy off of people @ the Shoreline ampitheater and JV and Elvis were preaching their bull shit for about 15 or 20 minutes. Some people in the crowd bought into their bull shit but I wasn't fuckin amused I was there for COMEDY not PREACHING. After their bull shit rants Carlos came out and not only made fun of their shit and the blind chik but went on to make fun of MEXICANS which he is, asians, blacks, middle eastern fucks, which was the funniest shit i have seen live. Sooooooo, the day after I was listening early to the dog house and they fuckin went on a power trip trying to call out Carlos Mencia for being what he is a COMEDIAN he made fun of some one and they got all fuckin butt hurt at the fact that he was making fun of their rants. The dog house went on for a few days after the comedy jam bashing Mencia............... Sooooooo now I am glad that they fuckin got what they deserved they made fun of some one and the people didnt like what was said and now they are all out of a fuckin JOB so fuck the dog house..... aight I said my piece

really, did that show had to start clownin' on people different than those crackas? they already was doin' well actin like jackasses anywayz, so there was no need to be jealous on the different bay peoples. seriously, one less conceited honkeys on the radio, is best for radio in general. i actually been noticing in the last couple of months, they been gettin' giving political comments which maybe offended their bosses. but i really don't think it was just that one incident, but many before that.

Here's facts....

the doghouse wasn't fired. the ratings had nothing to do with it. the doghouse will be picked up by another station in the same market. The doghouse wasn't going to resign anyways. SLY got it right, clearchannel is just trying some pre-emptive attack. Whether you like them or not, the majority of people do. They got suspended a number of times for supporting LOCAL artists, they supported local as much as they could. Hell, the week before they got released they had like 3 different local bands(which also got them suspended). You could always hear atleast 1 bay artists in their mixes & they always gave love&respect back to the bay.

The Doghouse IS bigger than wild94.9, it just sucks for all the local dj's employed by them. People will hate, because the whole point of their show is to act like dickheads. So they get offended and whine like bitches. Here's some more facts, the actual transcript of the fat comment....

JV "are there a bunch of groups that all come together, do you collaborate or does each group go up one at a time?"
girl "each group goes up one at a time, so we're gonna have drum bugal core show, we have colorguard dancing, we've got..."
Elvis "colorguards, those are the ones that couldnt make it as cheerleaders right?"
girl "oh no now..."
Elvis "I'm just saying, if you're flapping a flag you were either eating too much before the cheerleader try outs or..."
girl "or you had to high of an IQ, anyways..."
Elvis "too high? oh so you must of been in the colorguard! i see, so you're saying cheerleaders are stupid huh?"
~girl laughing~
Elvis "that's what I heard from ya,"
girl "damn"
Elvis "i'm just kidding"
JV "you're the one thats like talking the smack then you put it on her, oh you're ripping on the cheerleaders"
girl "yeah yeah exactly"
Elvis "thats what I do"

The doghouse will be back, whine whine.
