San Francisco kicker David Akers has set the NFL record for most field goals in one season with his 41st and then further distanced himself with another field goal minutes later in Saturday's game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Akers made a 44-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter for No. 41. It was his third made field goal of the game after earlier connecting from 53 and 29 yards. Akers then added another kick -- this one from 39-yards out -- with 3:01 left in the game to put the Niners up 19-17.

Akers missed a 52-yard attempt in the first quarter, just his seventh missed kick of the season. For the year, Akers is 41 of 48 on field goals.

Neil Rackers held the previous record with 40 made field goals set in the 2005 season while playing for Arizona.

How many of u thought it would be a two point game?? Exactly.

Was a great game, no shame in losing today.

i thought it would be a very competitive game today, and it was. seattle has made a comeback late in the season, they've looked good the last 5 or 6 games. lynch has been beastin. they've been hungry to make it to the play offs, and were very motivated. so i don't know anyone that thought the niners were going to come into the hardest stadium to play in for a team on the road and run through the seahawks, considering all the momentum they've had lately. seattle's a physical team man, i knew it wasn't going to be easy.l

Why does NFL.com say we have secured a first round bye? Am I missing something? Wtf? Are they just going ahead and counting the next as a win?

ps Another great game by Alex

where does it say that?

CLINCHED: The 49ers clinched the NFC West. San Francisco clinches a first-round bye with a New Orleans loss.

REMAINING OPPONENTS: at Rams (2-13)

COMMENT: If both the 49ers and Saints win out, San Francisco would get the No. 2 seed.

A cheap way? Lol. Thet would have likely got one at the end of the half from the inch line if they didn't botch the play.
yes, because he didn't work for it .... I would have given him props if he would had rushed for 15-25 yards and get the rush TD...

so in a way, he got it the cheap way ..

Because this is the sports forum... that's just the type of shit people do in here when their team wins... if anything, that post was meant more for the raider fans who always pick the opposing team just cuz they wanna see us lose..
