You play to win no matter what, thats why they get paid to do what they do.

Like M Buther 206 said, fuck a potential draft bust, ill take playoffs over that easily, especially considering our current situation.

Seahawks had the best offseason with the badass draft picks. And now they made history yesterday. The league wont see this history again.

So sick of this playing for draft pick shit. Since when did you go into a season playing to get a draft pick? Dallas defitnally didn't finish the season playing for draft picks and they were out of it long ago.

lol you think pete carroll and the general manager havent already started making plans for off season transactions? they had a great offseason and something like 290 total transactions this season, that is insane. and it will only keep up, thats one of the main reasons carroll is here. as far as that goes and the fact that we are in the playoffs at full steam rebuild mode, it says alot about the confidence that the players have.

i dunno about you guys but im waiting for the saints to come to qwest field on saturday, not the draft. the players want to keep playing, they dont think its a lost cause, i dont either. i think we're witnessing something great, this is some any given sunday type shit, not a fluke. lets see how long it rides out

Any season I did not have a legitimate shot at winning the Championship I would play for a draft pick.

Human's as a species have an innate tendency to overvalue the present and undervalue the future (which is why so many people still smoke cigarettes - because the negative consequences are not immediate).

A manager that has the ability to control that impulse would be at a great advantage over his peers.

If the Hawks make it to the Superbowl this season I will eat my words, otherwise, we just wasted the opportunity to make our franchise a legitimate contender to do so in the next few years.

Not only would I have played for a draft pick, I would have traded any player of value that is too old to still have value in 3-5 years when the franchise is ready to compete for the championship (Leon Washington being a prime example)

free agents rather go to a team that makes the playoffs as a free agent you arent gonna be lookin to go to a team that didnt make the playoffs

Albert Haynesworth?
TJ Houshmandzadeh?
Alge Crumpler?
Josh Brown?
Brian Dawkins?
Karlos Dansby?
Patrick Kerney?
Joey Porter?
Nate Burelson?

They all went to shitty teams.

Why do those things need to be mutually exclusive?

Why could we not have lost yesterday, gotten better draft picks, and signed some proven free agents?
They dont have to be, but they often are. Top 10 picks cost A LOT of money...money that could be put elsewhere. Had we lost, we would have had the #8 pick in the draft, and would have had to pay a premium for an unproven rookie. No thanks.

So there can be a pretty big risk in signing free agents too?

::

And the argument wasn't about whether free agents stay relevant when they go to shitty teams, the argument was about whether good free agents sign to shitty teams.

The answer to that argument (and not the one you have tried to substitute in this discussion) is yes.

most of em werent that big of free agents besides tj and haynesworth but redskins were the only stupid ass team to shell out that money they been known to over pay half ass players and the players that signed on shitty teams did it for the money which teams get more when they make the playoffs not by tanking a season
