I'm going out on a limb and guessing graphic design or photography lol.
this is creepy how did you know..lol

graphics and coding on windows..

but reason i made this thread is i want people that got the computers to kinda lay out the pros and cons., because i read some people got problems with the new one.. just wanted to kinda get your experinces.. and why im really thinking of getting the older is the non glossy screen and the price..

McKadafi, did you get the mac? i remember the thread a while back you did asking about the screen..

well I would run with the old one, just because of the glossy screen. Also a lot are afraid of the old ones because of the faulty nvidia chips, but the new ones also faulty to rumors. My advice: buy a refurbished mac book pro now and then sell it at the beginning of 2010 and buy a nahlem mac book pro (new processor about to come out q4 2009) which is supposed to be a real real big major step forward in speed and everything.

i bought the new model a week ago and i love it. I got the 2.4Ghz 2GB ram one, at a very good price. In store it would have cost about 2160 after tax but I got it for 1750 total after rebates.

If cheaper price is a priority just get the older model. The main differences are the design of the comp, the ports, trackpad, and the graphics card. I never owned the old MBP so I cant give you a comparison.

One thing I really like is the trackpad finger motions. once you get used to it it comes in real handy. I can just hook up a mouse to this thing and with one hand pinch in and zoom in and out of an image in Photoshop while i work, or just twist my fingers around and rotate. If you ever used an iPhone its the same thing but you can use up to 4 fingers at once.

If your working offline you can squeeze out about 5 hours of battery life, and if your actively browsing around etc, with the wifi on you get an average of 3 1/2 to maybe 4 hours. If your gonna be using the thing outside alot the glossy screen will kind of annoy you but they sell matte screen covers that could fix the glare problem, it hasnt bugged me yet.

p.s. get yours at www.macconnection.com those prices are gonna be good till dec 31

i read an article with the xbench results comparing the old macbooks to the new ones, and basically the results were that the old macbook pro is slower than the new macbook(the regular one), and the new macbook pro obviously is faster than both. they redid the guts on them too, the hard drive is hella easy to swap.

a good rule of thumb with apple products is that the newest is usually the best. they don't brick too often lately.

i don't know what machine you're working on now, but realistically w/the type of work you're going to be doing, if price is the issue i'd get the older one and max it out w/ram. it'll be good for a long time if you're doing PS and Illustrator.
