Probably wouldn't reroute without a drop, but from what I read you just need to be on wifi like once a month or some shit, then cell as usual.

$19 sounds mighty nice. Tired of these phone companies ripping everyone off

what would happen on this if someone was on a call through a wifi conection then went out of range of the wifi. would it drop the call or reroute to cell networks seamlessly?
A new wireless carrier named Republic Wireless, a part of Bandwidth.com, will begin to offer unlimited voice, text and data plans on November 8th for just $19 per month. How is that possible? Republic Wireless will route calls and text messages over Wi-Fi networks when available, and when you’re outside of one it will send the calls over a standard cell network. According to GigaOm, Republic Wireless will buy minutes in bulk from Sprint and then resell them to its customers. The carrier will offer special Android phones with support for voice calling over Wi-Fi networks using technology similar to UMA, a feature in several of T-Mobile’s Android and BlackBerry devices. Reportedly, Republic Wireless will also offer unlimited 3G without any data caps.

read the whole description on the website. it gives you a phone number that you use as your cell phone that you can make unlimited calls on through a wifi connection. its not charging you for the wifi usage per se, but rather to make calls on your cell phone through it. its an integrated, seamless product - there is currently nothing like it on the market. and you don't pay for cellular minutes, you get an allotment under its "fair use" rules.

looks interesting, lets see if it ends up catching on.

so...they DO have cell phone towers that can be used? they dont really speak much on that
so its $19/month but then you pay for minutes...thats dumb
its a phone that charges you to use something (wifi) that you are probably already paying to use. that's dumb as fuck. That would be like paying $19/month to use your tablet/ipod touch/laptop/desktop on your wifi connection.
Let me help you out.

You pay $19/month plus whatever taxes.

You get unlimited voice / data / text.

Your phone uses Sprint network towers.

You must stay within their 'cellular usage index' which is based on how much you use the phone through wifi vs the towers.

"Even assuming 0% wifi usage, for example, you could consume 550 minutes, send 150 texts, and download 300 megabytes of data without crossing the community’s fair use threshold."
