Aight, I've been workin at my job now for 4 1/2 years. I'm about as high on the pay scale as I'm going to get. Currently at 17 buckz. I went to school while working this job and obtained my AAS in Machine Tool Technology. I'm located in the Wichita area where there are a lot of jobs for this kind of work. I've lived here all my life and I've been wanting to move to Texas for some time now. I recently gotta job offer from a company in El Campo, TX about a machine shop position starting out at 20 buckz and the dude was hinting to me he has a supervisor position needing filled. My dad and some other family of mine live in Corpus Christi which is a 2 hour drive away from this place. I drove down there this past weekend to check out the shop an shit. It'z a pretty dirty shop compared to what I'm used to......no heating, no a/c. It didn't look very appealing. I'm having a hard time figuring out if 3 buckz more an hour is worth a move to a different state. I know Texas will blow Kansas away nightlife wise. I'm on 3rd shift now which I like and this new job will be 2nd shift which I'm not too crazy about. Right now I'm payin 200 buckz for rent (nice duplex/family owned) and down there I will be paying about 650+. I could go with a cheaper apartment for 450 but I would have to get rid of my dog. I'm single, no kidz, and the only bill I currently owe on is my credit card. I will have the option of working over time at this new place if I want so hopefully extra money won't be a problem. I just don't see a lot of potential in this new company but 20 buckz is good money and if I decide to move some place else in Texas I will already be down that way.......I'm just stuck like chuck on what the fuck to do...

I'd make the jump away from Wichita, if I was you. You also said their is potential for a supervising position. That'd look good on your resume in the near future.

“They’re saying next year (this year) could be worse than last year – that there is a 40 percent chance a storm could hit us, the Texas Coast, next year.”

I've been doing some research and I guess this place is a prime target for the Hurricanes.

"Early planning and evacuation is the key, Appling said.
“Everybody can’t leave at the same time,” he said, adding any planning has to be “a group effort.”
And while Wharton County shouldn’t feel the pounding of tidal surge, the potential damage from wind, rain and even hurricane-spawned tornadoes could be significant, he said.
“We can’t wait until the last day or two to evacuate,” he said, adding, “the governor is trying to figure out the best way to do things.”
In the Rita evacuation, families loading up every car or trailer they owned before heading out tripled traffic expectations and added to the gridlock rather than only taking one vehicle.
That too will have to be addressed, officials said."

I guess this place floodz in some spotz too...
