What version windows? Do you have the install disc? If so you can boot from the disc and run a repair on windows.

Heres how to do it on XP:

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

XP Repair install Please read carefully and make sure you followed the warning links before initiating the Repair Install. You can print a text version for reference. repair.txt
  1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
  2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

  3. Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.
do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".
  4. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
  5. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, END setup. After the reboot read Warning#2!
  6. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

its usb.....i have a couple of them usb to serial port adapters and i tried usin that to hook it up to the serial port instead but it doesnt work at all that way....doesnt power up and it doesnt even let me hit F1 to go into the configuration.....btw the configuration screens is the same thing as BIOS right??? cuz my comp never says anything about BIOS in the beginning jus configuration....

anyways i plugged the keyboard bacc in the usb and now before it goes to the screen to let me choose the mode i wanna start windows in it tells me 301 Keyboard or Keyboard configuration error.....at this point my kb is still workin and it lets me hit F1 to go into the configuration again....but if i hit enter to continue it goes to the windows mode screen and the kb stops workin again.....im lookin up the 301 error but not findin much help.....i need to find a way to fix this in the coinfiguration or find a way to get to DOS so i can jus reformat the whole drive adn reinstall maybe.....as a last resort cuz im about to lose a shitload of beats, songs i was mixin down and graphics i was workin on or already finished for payin customers!!!!!! im pretty sure the guys at the store or geeksquad could fix it witout losin the info but i aint got the money to pay them foos right now so im pretty much fucced if i cant fix it myself......

Get a different KB with a standard serial port. Sounds like your KB is just messed up.

maybe but why does it work fine at the beginning then jus stops workin at a certain point??? from what im reading its some sort of memory error but i have no clue on how to fix it.......
Short circuiting maybe? You gotta look at the simple stuff, you get a keyboard error and the usb drivers dont load in safe mode to work the kb. Don't you want to try a diff kb? A new one is only $10 and a simple thing to try out.

XP has a RAM tester you can DL. Get on another computer and downoad it to a floppy and boot from your floppy. Itll find RAM errors.

you were halfway right Tony....the keyboard is still good but since its usb the comp probably aint loadin the drivers right or its havin a memory conflict...i went and borrowed a regular serial port kb from my homie and i can now at least choose safe mode but thas still not workin so im runnin the xp cd like you posted.....hopefully this works.....
