Third day in class and i didnt know it was board breaking day as he joined in late in an upper class division (they put him there due to thier"grading" of him at first class, they said he would benefit from being in higher not his age class). im like fine whatever, so he goes, again im unaware it was board breaking day, and so they said ok since you are very new took him over how to position yourself and where to hit with your hand...bam first time!

ok I know nothing cool to any of you but I was proud of my son!

yeah thats why he is in it. lol. I wanted him to get a feel for karate see if he likes it (he fights with me and his grandpa allll the time), if he likes it im keeping him in this as well as possibly moving him into ju jit su as well.

even the teacher was like he's only 5??? they ran him through some tests and stuff and they were like ok he is strong for his age, flexible for being that strong etc... so it was going to be football this season (flag) but I think I will go this route for at least this year

If you're doing the whole self defense/fitness thing for him you should put him in brazilian jiu jitsu, boxing, muay thai or wrestling class. I wish I would of started earlier when I was younger. He is a lil young but props! The earlier the better!

thats dope, you should let him do that for a while, after a year when hes 6/7 you should put him in freestyle wrestling, itll be good for his flexibility and strength, and if you wanna do jujitsu after that then it will be a good base

I remember takin Karate like 6th grade and I broke a board with a kick and got to keep the board.
For some unknown reason my mom took a sharpie to it and wrote "my board" on it.
My friends seen it and clowned me mercilessly.
I had to quit karate after that.

thanks guys, Good advice in here. yeah Im just using karate as a base and to get him some discipline and used to a schedule. Never thought about the freestyle wrestling just thought ju jit su first but good idea.

and yes he is a scrapper, bigger and looks older then he is.

That's fuckin awesome. When I took karate you didn't get to fight anyone till your fourth belt and you didn't break boards till your eight belt. I never would have done that shit on my third day of class.
