Acting as a hostess? That's where it's going to get tricky. How far will they stretch that protection under the 1st amendment. That's why her attorney thinks she has a case.

If I wanted to wear an upside down pentagram and say that I'm a practicing (LeVey style) Satanist, which wouldn't be too far from truth, I doubt anyone would be on my side in this case.

Probably because Americans as a whole aren't afraid to discriminate against anti-religious beliefs.

I mean, even if I don't find the imagery questionable personally, I'd still be like... "How the fuck does that guy/girl get away with wearing Satanic imagery?"

It's not like they told her to fuck off.

First of all Likwid, she is not deciding to wear a veil for vanity purposes. She is Muslim, and HAS been Muslim, but by not wearing a scarf before this, she has in her own religion's terms, been sinning while knowing she could just not sin by wearing a scarf.

You cannot hire someone knowing they are of a certain faith that has certain religious rulings on clothing and tell her to "work in the back" after she decides to be a more pious person to her religion. They would not allow her to have her normal job, while she was still ok with "wearing the costume" over her hijabi outfit.

She is suing to make a point for many cases to come, not to screw over Disney. Plus Disney will not hurt financially from this, maybe they could integrate some real multicultural techniques like they feature in their "It's a Small World" ride?

Plus I thought Jasmine and Aladdin are based off a middle eastern theme, isn't our country and our world filled with people of all different ethnicities and cultures? How come its only an issue when a woman wants to show some modesty?

Btw, would you complain when a woman sues after being discriminated for being pregnant? I knew someone who was sent to work "in the back" of a bank during her pregnancy when she was showing and her boss called her a fat cow in front of everyone before she went on maternity leave, i guess she should have kept her mouth shut too?

Whats that got to do with anything? you're changing this into something it's not. Whether or not you have the american public on your side doesn't mean a damn thing, it's called constitutional rights, and they can't be violated because a bunch of fuck nuts don't like it.

It has everything to do with it really. Constitutionally, sir... I'm allowed to wear upside down crosses and upside down pentagrams, yes?

You think Disney would let me do that in public while I worked for them?

If that ever happened do you think there would even be news coverage?

Don't be stupid enough to say yes.

Damn I forgot the Open Forum was still filled with religious intolerant dumbshits. smh. I wonder where all my Native American folk are at, doesn't this remind you of the stripping of Native American culture and religion in the early settlements of the United States?

Cultural and religious persecution, simple as that. We have a freedom to follow which religion we want no matter how 'ridiculous' anyone else deems it. Some of you niggas need to recognize you have become more prejudice than Bill O'Reilly.

lol i'm a Native American folk and think this dumb bitch needs to take her fuckin scarf off if her employer deems it not apart of the uniform for wherever she decides to work. This is a simple ploy to get a big fat settlement from Disney.

I'm about to make a simple point.....

She.....MADE THE CHOICE.....to work at Disney, that should mean she should follow the rules of Disney correct? Disney didn't have a gun to her head saying she had to work there.

If this is how every employer should be in the country then that means someone should be able to wear a big ass Church of Satan pentagram around their neck when they work at Disney too right? Imagine your little 6 year old walking up to Mickey and he's rocking a pentagram throwing up devil horns on his hands lol

Wearing a scarf is a very old tradition even in Christian and Judaism. It stems from not being seen as a lustful object, which proving from many siccness threads, women who show their hair and skin (even while wearing normal clothes) can be looked at with lust easier than women who cover their body and hair.

So when the White settlers told the Native Americans that their long hair and traditional leather clothing was 'not right' and cut off every single girls and guys hair the same, and put them in "traditional" European clothing, this isn't the same idea of intolerance?
EVERYONE MUST BE THE SAME!

If these Native American children's parents didn't agree then they would have no help with their settlement, and that means they would be subject to not learning English, and not being able to participate in the new evolving economy and society that was forced upon them.

Disney could have been culturally and religiously tolerant and understand that our society is full of different types of people who make different decisions at certain parts of our life, and that including her in the normal day to day business whether or not she decides to follow her religion more piously could represent to everyone that finally everyone is accepted, and despite your religious beliefs you are American and you have religious freedom.

Ha. I guess it goes down the drain when it comes to a practice that everyone is not used to. Btw, Mary the mother of Jesus wore a hijab style hair covering. So did many other historic figures. Some f'n people.

@ Smile

this is 2010 homeboy not 1800, the world changes and your average Native American wasn't trying to get a job at a themepark with already established uniform policy. This woman isn't special, she gets to wear the same uniform that I would wear if I got a job at Disneyland.

All people want in life is to be babied. This bitch needs to grow the fuck up and earn her fucking living or get a new job where the uniform policy allows her scarf.
