So in short, I think there are two cities that really rise above the others when it comes to long overdue sports suffering.

CLEVELAND, OHIO

&

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON

* If you weight everything from 1966-2007 equally, I think that Cleveland gets the nod as a town that has suffered more. However, if you weight everything post-1990 more to reflect what most of us (assuming it's mostly a 25 and under crowd here) have experienced as sports fans, than Seattle gets the nod.

So this isn’t the most suffering sports cities ever. It’s the most with 3 teams and since 1966. I know my Grandpa who lived and watched the Browns win 4 championships…he wouldn’t say Cleveland has suffered. To me yeah…but not to him.

You’re limiting the criteria. And besides…I don’t think you can say who has “suffered” more. Everyone has their own opinion on what suffering is.

Ask Buffalo, San Diego, L.A. (if you like football), New Orleans, Milwaukee about suffering. Or what if you only like 1 team from your city? You think Philly cares about an NBA title in ’82?

You think the freakin’ Cubs fans care what any other sport in their city does?

It’s all opinion…and I know you like stats…but I don’t think you can use them in this situation.

phoenix

dont follow hockey and dont care about coyotes
the suns should make a strong run in playoffs

oh the other hand the cards just plain suck. in 19 yrs since 1988 they had 1 9-7 and 1 8-8 season. the game yesterday was awful. u could tell that kurt rythm was way off. but hes our only hope for now and the immideate future. tim ratay sucked balls in the game a few weeks back when kurt got his left elbow injured. i dunno how tim hassleback will turn out if he gets a chance to play. tampa bay simply outplayed the cardinals. there defense was too much for arizona. john gruden simply was a better coach then wizzenhunt

Yep ample evidence, Phoenix is 4th from the bottom in a lot of those lists I posted.

Oakland, CA

the Raiders have been on the losing side of things the past few seasons and when they did have their playoff streak they werent able to win it all..

the A's always trade away or lose their talented players yet they still continue to make a run for the playoffs but cant get to the WS

the Warriors missed the playoffs for a longtime except last season when Nelly helped turn things around..

overall they have been suffering IMO because they have had their chances but still cant win the championships that matter the most..

sure the AFC championship games and playoff apperances by the A's and Warriors where nice.. but you gotta win the whole thing.!

Now if we where talking about Uprising Sports Cities it would be the Boston, Mass. area no doubt

Yeah places like the Bay Area and New York do bring into question the series of criteria I created, b/c most folks in the Bay who are legitimate fans only root for 1 of the baseball teams and 1 of the football teams, so if the others in those sports are winning, they aren't taking part in the joy like my index might imply.

Still, Oakland is no where near the top when you really throw where you're from, what your geography is out the window, and actually fairly compare places. In the Super Bowl era, Oakland has won 2 Super Bowls (appeared in 5) and 4 World Series (appeared in 6).

In short, the Bay Area even w/out the Giants & Niners (so Oakland) would be nowhere near the bottom of any of those fair, rational ways to define this. You guys have been very very fortunate.
