it does kinda look suspect that all these hip hop cats are speakin on behalf o new orleans, even though they ain't there. to the naked eye, it would appear they are tyin to gain notoriety..however, no offense to nobody on here, but katrina is really about how many black folks and some white people too..were affected by thus tragedy, and how our government mishandled everything..so i think mos def was just tryin to srpead awareness, thats all..

EXACTLY thank you. I can see you listened to his lyrics also. Now Im black and I didnt agree with the shit he be saying in his music and interviews. And the funniest thing is all these cats on here who is attacking me and calling me a idiot are white themselves or just confused. I read a interview with my own eyes with mos def saying he makes music for blacks living in a white world.

And when I said Mos Def trying to revive his career i was saying since his last album majorly flopped and was a dissappointment to most he was doing that shit at the VMA's for publicity to get his name ringing again bc its about time for him to drop a new album since he is under a recording contract. Dont get me wrong he may had a lil attentions to spread awareness but I truely believe he was doing that shit mostly for publicity due to he was singing a song. I would see if he just did a speech or protest but he was performing his katrina song.
Just like Amerikkka has been quick to defend its racist, white supremicist leaders and actions.They said the same type shit when Kanye aired Bush out....''thats an inappropraite time to say that'' or ''he just did it for publicity''.A black man cant be real just for the sake of being real huh?He cant truely want to spread awareness about this racist government/society huh?

If his true intentions were just to spread awareness, he would sell his CDs at cost to get his message out to as many people as possible. However, he continues to profit off his CD sales, regardless of the message he chooses to embrace, so any action he takes to increase publicity makes more money for himself. How about he stops selling CDs all together and just starts pulling stunts like this full time? If he were to do that, I would be much more inclined to believe his motives were not financial.
