Mom Accused Of Tossing 3 Kids Into San Francisco Bay
SAN FRANCISCO -- Mayor Gavin Newsom says he was sick to his stomach after being briefed about a woman, who told authorities she was hearing voices, tossed her children -- ages 1, 3 and 6 -- into San Francisco Bay.
Authorities confirm that Lashaun Harris, 23, of Oakland, has been booked on three counts of murder and three counts of assault on a child with great bodily injury. The San Francisco Chronicle reported she told authorities that voices had told her to throw her children into the water.
Police Chief Heather Fong said Harris could be arraigned as early as Friday.
The San Francisco Examiner said the body of the woman's 3-year-old son was recovered Wednesday night about four hours after a witness reported seeing a woman drop the children off a local pier. The Coast Guard has resumed the search for the other two children, who are feared dead.
The search began late Wednesday afternoon when an unidentified man called 911 to report seeing the woman drop the children into the chilly water near a popular waterfront stretch.
