I agree with you in saying that "an artist" should and "shall be judged" as he/she "promotes himself." However, I don't think that this fact contradicts the focus of my point (or in other words, creates a "dichotomy between [my] theories"). If anything, I believe that it plays into my point precisely. I am urging people to look past the way that the radio displays F.A.B., and how he may "promote himself," and to try and grasp his full lyrical capability, which he exemplifies in his latest CD, before judging him.
Lol. I don't mean to offend/disrespect you, but that's an awful point. That's like saying that "beacuse so-and-so presents himself in the media a certain way, that we, the people, should just accept this as who he truly is and move on." Sorry, but I find that view a little bit ignorant. Just because someone is shown in the media one way or another, even if he wants to be perceived as such, does not mean that that is who they truly are. All I'm striving to do is to have people realize that he has much more lyrical talent that the typical FAB radio slapper displays. Nuf said.
You missed my point...You act like the radio forced those songs on the album. I'm not speaking on the way a person truly is outside of the music. We are talking about the artist and his or her body of work. If an artist sees the publics perception of him not going the way he deems credible to how he REALLY is then normally they make an attempt to put a hault to it (they don't keep adding to it every chance they get). I say, let FAB do FAB and if he wants the image of him to be the king of the yellow bus then thats his business, because he is now a slave to the image that brought him sucess just like 40 is to being (outside of the Bay) only good for slang. When you fight so hard to carve a nitch- you are stuck with it.
I agree with you completely; however, I think we are arguing two different points. You're arguing, to the best of my understanding, that he has created this "yellow bus" public persona, and therefore should assume responsibility for the people's reaction that it generates. I am arguing that, although he is responsible for his image, people should not judge his lyrical APTITUDE SOLELY based on what he has been producing (or therefore, been putting on the radio) lately. He's much more than go dumb slaps and hyphy slumps, he's a "[backpack rapper who just happens to be hyphy]."
^^^ It's the internet, right? If you know how to write, you can hide intonation and speech patterns, and therefore, sound however you please, whenever you please. It's similar to kickin it w/ your friends and writing for your english teacher. You can talk however you feel to your friends, but if you turn in a slanguage-laced, ebonics-infested paper, you're not going to pass.
My point is: if you know how to speak/write properly, you can present yourself in any way you please. You can call it "fake," but language or verbal representation of yourself does not necessarily represent who you are or your background, especially if you've had the right to an education.

you may be right. on account that, aside from his radio friendly "hyphy slumpers" i have never auditorily recieved much of mr. fabs music, though it pains me to say, i must admit ignorance on my part. my sir, would you be ever so kind to post a track or two that you feel best exemplifies mr. fab's backpack rapping lyrical aptitude?

Don't you think that you're contradicting your self now? You are making the same point that I made against you in the first place, yet you still decided to play the role of "English professer" in the context of a rap discussion on an internet forum. It is obvious that you are very capable of down grading your speech, yet you still decided to present your self as if you're "writing for your english teacher".. What was so special about this thread that you felt as if you had to display the ammount of education you've attained? Seems a little suspect..

No, I don't believe I'm contradicting myself. Just because one is "capable of downgrading" his/her speech, does not mean that he/she should necessarily do such. In certain situations, yes, it is more acceptable (such as when one is talking to his/her friends, or posting a somewhat irrelevant annotation to a thread, such as I did before). However, I believe that when one is making an argument, he/she should be as descriptive as possible to best illustrate his/her point, which is exactly what I did when I created this thread.

Yeah that's great. I never said anything about hatin on dude. I even acknowledged how great Son Of A Pimp was. The thread however is about the misconception of Mistah F.A.B., and the misconception of him comes from the one-dimensional work he is putting out since Son Of a Pimp. I didn't say he wasn't talented, he is real talented, possibly one of the best beat riders and spitters in the bay right now, but the music he is being featured on and his own shit he's putting out is what makes people believe hyphy is all he is, and that was what I was addressing.
