I think you present some very valid points. I'll be interested to see if Yellow Bus Rydah exemplifies all of his different styles, or if it is going to be exclusively slappers.
well it's already been said in several interviews that it's going to be a double cd; the first cd is going to be more deep/meaningful/serious stuff, and the second cd is gonna be hyphy/yellow bus/go dumb type of music.

which i think is perfect, because it'll have something for everybody.

You are the exact type of person that I was directing this thread toward. Radio stations, especially local radio stations, such as KMEL/94.9, are not going to play his "'deeper material.'" They are going to play what their frequent listeners tune in for, and in the Bay Area, that would be Hyphy music. Before you pass judgement on Fabby, look past his "mainstream" material.
exactly.

and i mean REALLY, with any artist... how much of their "deep" material really gets radio play? the radio mostly just plays fun/feel good/party/booty shakin or go dumb type of shit...

@B-Town On Mines...It's funny that you are using such an effusive profusion of academic language in a forum based on colloquial text based elocation. However their is a dichotomy between your theories as I am sure that a person with your ability in the realm of explication should understand. I see myself as a perspicacious judge of musical charactor and basically--as an artist promotes himself, that is how he shall be judged.

the answer to this whole post is in the title. its a just a big fuckin MISCONCEPTION!!!

yea fabby has been puttin out nothin but hyphy shit, but you know why? cuz that shit sells. the majority of people who buy albums buy them because of the shit they hear on the radio. and the majority of people (like it or not) are too dumb to listen to a track like "if if was a 5th" and dig it, and also, newsflash....concept tracks are not exactly radio friendly nor are they the hook into buying an album. truth is, club tracks aka hyphy tracks, is the shit that gets a rapper noticed in today's mainstream hiphop radio. and fabby is getting noticed....getting noticed equals album sales....album sales equals the chance to see the versatility that the artist has and what they have to offer besides what originally hooked the consumer into buying the album.

he can say it publically cause it aint like they gonna stop buying his shit for it. FAB is very misconceived, he has deep tracks but that shit doesnt really fly on the radio so he goes for the catchy unique cuts. hes a smart man

@ B-Town...This is an odd first post/thread. What made you do this and in the way you presented it?
There were many motives for me to post a thread concerning this particular subject:
1) I've heard many people discredit FAB beacuse of a misapprehension of his lyrical capability.
2) Mistah FAB is my favorite rapper in the bay and I was interested in seeing if there were other fans who shared my same viewpoint. For those who are part of the majority (!!!***"I dumb down for my audience to double my dollars"....lol...jk...***!!!), I wanted to hear their explanation of why they believe Mistah FAB to have minimal talent.

To answer your question of "what made [me present]" this "post/thread" in this particular fashion:
I wrote this "post/thread" in the manner I did because I knew it would catch the attention of ALL readers and therefore cause them to respond. Whether individuals' initial responses pertained to the focus of the thread or the style of my writing was irrelevant. In the long run, I knew that my post would have its intended effect (my opinion would be heard), because a vast amount of Sicness users would read/respond to my post solely because of the high volume of replies/views. I hope that helps.

As much as I like U R My Angel, I'm still not a Fabby fan.

The people will mainly know Fabby for what image he creates for himself. The image he creates for himself is a nigga who rides a yellow bus, wears a helmet, and says shit like "Shaboobaloopy." Therefore, people with any respect for intelligence will see this constant display of ignorance and Fabby's admiration of mental disabilities, and write him off as a dumb nigga. If Fabby wants people to respect him for his lyricism, start lettin people know more about it, and stop wearing helmets.

4real , even the stupid dumb retarded shyt out with REAL rappin . bout REAL things .

First i want to thank B-town on mine for an excellent Thread, I read sicness from time to time but due to the lack of thought put into most discussions i feel adding in my “two cents” would be a waste of time.

But He/she brought up some valid points on why Mistah Fab’s image is misconceived. If anyone has been following his career for the last 4-5 years (and let me say this is one of the hardest working artist around) then you know that you can not just label him as one type of artist. He does not neatly fit in any box and to try to do so is impossible. This is why he can do songs with the likes of artists such as planet Asia, Rass Kass, kool keith, ect. and turn around and work with 40, turf talk, and other typical bay rappers. The Hyphy movement for Fab, and for many other artists, is a vehicle in which to gain recognition throughout the industry and that is definitely happening ( i.e. His articles in XXL, this months thrasher, My block the bay on mtv and the new hyphy special on MTV). The record labels love him because he is the complete package- the man is marketable ( he has lyrics, charisma, great performer, and the ladies love him). As much as people like me wish music didn't have to be as much as a big business that it is, that is the reality of the game. He understands that, if riding a yellow bus is going to get him added recognition and make the fans go crazy, why not? If anything it speaks to his ingenious character to Come up with such catch phrases and symbols which his fans instantaneously incorporate into their vocabulary and lifestyle.

If you really doubt his versatility, go back and listen to some old tapes of The wake-up show, shit pick up his first album(Niglatin) he did when he was a teenager and listen to songs like “worries”, and if anything BORROW someone's copy of The Son of a Pimp, i mean rasputians named it the number one rap album for 2005 , and it wasn’t because it was hyphy.

And P.S. why do we have to prove a artist’s worth by comparing them to each other? Let a man stand up by his own merit, and Fab has a lot to stand up about- check the resume.

i didn't mean for this to be so long, but...

honestly... i don't think the people who have this misconception have ever listened to his albums in their entirety... or even heard more than a brief excerpt from one or 2 of his songs.

people i've encountered online seem to have this weird idea that all he does is talk about "go dumb" & "thizz" & "yellow bus" & "shaboobalaboopy" but i mean... i don't even know where they got that idea... because all of his songs... including the hyphy ones... still have CONTENT. they're all ABOUT something.

i mean... if you look at the son of a pimp album...

you have the deep/personal & insightful songs that are really touching... such as: if papa was home, hood life, mama song, u r my angel, call heaven, & if "if" was a 5th. i mean.. i don't know how anybody could listen to those songs without feeling something.

& streets of the bay is also about some real shit.

then you have the "hyphy" songs- that get people movin in the club & at shows, which are also still ABOUT something. new oakland, super sic wid it, and kicked out the club. those shits slap... & they're not just random dumb words that don't mean shit.

then there are the cupcakin songs like hey lil mama & crush on you... which are nice too, for the ladies. they make me smile.

and you have "dis is how da game goes" which is a cool ass song just to kick back & listen to.

point being, he is a very talented, articulate, & versatile artist.

& i really don't know why so many people who are obviously not familiar with his music have so much negative shit to say about him.

and in to me... it seems like people have a misconception of bay area rap in general... they seem to think that everything coming out of the bay is "hyphy"... and because they get people movin... that all the "hyphy" songs must have no lyrical content & that they're all just about "shake yo dreads" & "get hyphy" & "ride the yellow bus" which simply isn't true.

and even if an artist does make a couple songs that are less about lyrics and more about energy/beats... i mean... i can't think of ANY "hyphy" artists that don't also have personal and meaningful songs as well. it's about balance. there's a time & place for everything. when people are at the club or at a party, they most likely aren't gonna wanna shake their ass or go dumb to some deep/insightful/sometimes depressing shit. & if people are feeling mellow, nostalgic, or thoughtful, they probably aren't gonna be in the mood to listen to fast-paced hyphy shit.

so it's good for an artist to produce music that can appeal to different audiences and attitudes.

[/end rant]
