if im getting that right...mls has higher attendance than brazilian club soccer? that doesnt change the fact that soccer is a marginalized sport in america while its sacred in brazil. if a radio host in brazil said the things jim rome says about soccer he wouldnt be on the air again. here jim rome has plenty of support for his soccer bashing. here you have marginalized ethnic minorities who dig soccer, and a pocket of middle class global travel and culture appreciating americans who truly dig soccer. but the general american masses still dismiss it as a inferiors sport for foreigners and pansies.

this is changing and getting better, but over all most americans still dont give a fuck about soccer and they love to cling to that when usa loses like an excuse. reminds me of kids back in the day who would strike out in baseball and immediately say "i dont care, i dont even like baseball" haha
They arent clinging to it because the US lost, they are most likely being honest...they could probably careless when it comes to Soccer....whether we win or lose, the feeling is still the same....Soccer just isnt a premier sport in America...it has nothing to do with whether we win or lose to other Countries....Im sure the "careless" part came first anyway...

lol...Its like its upsetting to some of you that Soccer isnt as appreciated in America...even if it were, many of you would just root for another country anyway, eventhough you have lived here all your life...lets be honest...

thats kinda true to a degree, but i remember a lot of ppl coming out last summer and suddenly being soccer fans and wearing red white and blue when the usa pulled off that crazy win against angola(?) in the world cup. i walk down to a bar to watch usa vs ghana and the place is PACKED with motherfuckers all decked out in red white and blue and american flags draped over their backs screaming usa chants and shit. i was like when the fuck did this happen?!? well usa lost....and the first thing i hear is some guy who 10 minutes ago was cheering his head off say something like "well thats why soccer sucks anyways. cant wait for football season to start." so i think theres lots of ppl like him...if usa wins theyre willing to CARE about soccer and love to scream u! s! a! and feel superior to other countries, but if they lose they go back to being careless like "oh yeah, i dont really like soccer anyways."

so if team usa wins enough games and gets in high profile games that espn promotes and ppl just watch cause of the hype, gradually more americans will learn how to watch the sport, thus understanding it more, and inevitably appreciating and enjoying it more. this can start with wins.

lol...Its like its upsetting to some of you that Soccer isnt as appreciated in America...even if it were, many of you would just root for another country anyway, eventhough you have lived here all your life...lets be honest...
those of us who root for other countries do it because even if youve lived in america it doesnt take away from the type of home you were raised in. a kid can grow up in the usa but if he grew up in a house being spoken to in spanish, being fed mexican food every day, learning all the mexican norms and mannerisms, and watching his non english speaking parents root for mexico ever since he could remember.....his loyalty will likely lie with the culture that raised him. thats why you see so many ppl in america rooting for the team that represents the type of home or family they grew up in.

but it'd still be great for non immigrant americans to get in on the action....not just that but its dumb to hear americans make their comments about soccer being "gay"...because the majority of ppl in the world understand thats not the case.

its like if ppl in greece always talked shit on tacos because they have gyros. everyone who actually understands how awesome tacos are would just shake their head at those ignorant greeks for thinking such an idiotic thing.

Some of yall seem to get bothered at the fact that there are people in the US who root for other countries in soccer. Just remember how this country was founded, and the collection of people here from all over the world! This place is like no other, there is no "uniform" race, as much as white people wanna believe there is. Hate to be cliche, but seems like many want it to be a melting pot here when the reality is that it's a salad...if that makes sense! Hahah

I personally dont care, but im sure some do offended, especially those with military ties...I can understand it, fighting for a country that many of its citizens have loyalty to another country anyway....or is that loyalty just with sports(Soccer)?

Although Carl did a good job at explaining why some might root for Mexico, I still dont get why someone would care if USA cares about Soccer when you're not rooting for them anyway? Thats like me getting mad if San Diego didnt support the Chargers, when in fact I'm a Chicago fan....Soccer doesnt need USA's approval, its the most popular sport in the world...Also, how are you gonna get mad at USA for not supporting the USA Soccer team(many fans do support), when many of you dont even support it?...you support another team....lol...

Not everyone in USA thinks Soccer is for fags..in fact, I respect the sport and enjoyed playing it as a kid....I prefer B-BALL and Football...I dont even like baseball like that but I dont see baseball fans getting pissed off about it....As long as you know Soccer isnt for fags then thats all that should matter..enough people care about Soccer to keep it going...not everyone is going to have the same feelings...If you're upset that Soccer isnt getting as much love as the Football, Basketball and Baseball in USA, then get in line with the Volleyball, Hockey, Rugby, etc. fans because thats a personal problem....

We're talking about soccer here, but like I said, this is a place of immigrants how do you expect people to have US Pride when they've been in this country maybe 2 or 3 generations at most? Furthermore, a country that looks down upon foreign people who act foreign (language, culture, traditions, etc.,) isn't gonna get much support from people who fall into those categories.

Soccer is seen as something foreign people do, which is a big reason many Americans clown on it. This really doesn't bother me in the least bit and I could care less if Team USA has zero fans, I'm just pointing it out...

I feel you...it doesnt bother me the slightest when USA born citizens root for other countries that they have ties to in sporting events, but it does bother me when those people get mad at us for not giving a f--k about Soccer or the outcome of the World Cup....As a former collegiate athlete and having trained with Soccer players, I dont agree with dissing Soccer as it is a respectable and fun sport to play IMO..not giving a f--k and dissing are two separate things....I dont have any stats to back up this claim, but I think there are more people in USA probably dont give a f--k as opposed to outright diss it...but I could be wrong...oh well..

its all good...

good points HIM.

i guess i really shouldnt care if americans do or dont like soccer. but i cant help but be bothered when jim rome says his stupid shit. when best damn sports show did some segment clowning on soccer during the world cup and when i hang out with ppl who diss on soccer. i still identify with american culture and it kind of embarrasses me that my american culture promotes this idea that soccer is lame...it adds to that whole ignorant "america fuck yeah!" stigma.
it also kind of bothers me cause theres only a handful of soccer friendly bars in dago

but you might be right that more ppl just dont care rather than bad mouth it. either way whatevs. chicharito is still a prophet of god

Right, I still think it's getting more popular. The mens team has gotten way better, MLS is getting better and we all know the women's team has won two world cups...

At the youth level, I think most kids play soccer. It's at the high school and college levels where they choose other sports...

lol Germany is destroying the USA right now at the U17 WC in Mexico and the resident fans are shitting/ on the USboys whenever they're in posession. Anyone else watching the U17 WC? Pretty good games/quality for such a young age group.

Yep, it's dope. Mex has a good team...

Brazil vs Ivory Coast was fuckin amazing, my sister is in Guadalajara and she saw it in person.

Dude on Ivory Coast has 8 goals in 3 games, pretty crazy...

Argentina vs England just went into extra time...

I guess they go to PK's right away. Should be good.

England came through 4:2 in PSO. I hope we beat them and play against Mexico in the Semi, it's too bad we can't meet in the Final, though. Mex should beat Panama and has a good chance against the winner of Ivory Coast - France, which should also be a great game. Favorites for the title are:

Brasil
Mexico
Germany

in that order
