McDonald's salad has more calories than Big Mac

If you ever thought "healthy fast food" was actually healthy, think again.
Though McDonald's may be on a health kick, some of its nutrient-enhanced meals are actually worse for you than junk food, according to CBC News.
McDonald's new Kale salad is the most outrageous offender, with more calories, fat, and sodium than a Double Big Mac burger

Kale has received a good reputation as of late since it contains a significant amount of vitamins and can be easily added to a breakfast wrap or sandwich for an extra crunch.

On its website, McDonald's boasts that the "Keep Calm, Caesar On" chicken salad contains "real parmesan" cheese petals and a "nutrient-rich lettuce blend with baby kale." These ingredients may sound wonderfully healthy, but topped with creamy Asiago Caesar dressing on its crispy chicken version, the salad loses its appeal.

The salad contains more than 730 calories, 53 grams of fat, and 1,400 milligrams of salt, according to McDonald's nutritional information.
As a point of comparison, someone would have to eat three traditional McDonald's hamburgers to consume about the same number of calories. A Double Big Mac contains about 680 calories, 38 grams of fat, and 1,340 milligrams of salt.

The American Heart Association recommends eating just 2,000 milligrams of sodium and 1,200 to 1,500 calories per day.

If you are planning on eating a salad from McDonald's, there are other options available that are less caloric. McDonald's Southwest Salad only contains 280 calories and 490 milligrams of sodium, which includes a creamy southwest dressing. And, for the truly health-conscious eater, a side salad without dressing is only 15 calories and 10 milligrams of sodium.

The title of the article is misleading: the SALAD doesnt contain that much shit, the DRESSING that goes WITH it does. How do people not know this shit???
Seriously. I always see retards on social media use dumb ass articles like this as their reasoning for not eating clean because "herp derp cheeseburgers and salads are the same" instead of just admitting you want to eat fast food. Don't pour a gallon of ranch dressing and a hand full of cheese on your vegetables idiots.

I do to, cause it's delicious lol

These retards do it and then say "why didn't I lose 20lbs. in the 3 days I've been eating these ranch soaked iceberg lettuce salads?".

I see these obese broads my cousins are married to acting like that on Facebook for years lol got me like

You're only supposed to have 1,200 to 1,500 calories per day? I think I'd die if I ate 1200 a day wtf that's enough for an elf maybe
1500 is currently the recognized minimum for safe weight loss for men with minimal lean muscle reduction and minimal risk of malnutrition or impacting organs like the kidneys and liver negatively. 1200 for women. This whole article reads like a middle schooler wrote it; its using the information about the salad and other details in misleading ways. Click-bait article at best, any retard can see the calorie count on the menu when ordering anyway this is some spam-email from the early 2000's type quality. This must be one of those computer generated advertisements that is disguised as an article it's terrible

Yeah never understood why people get so up in arms about McDonald's calories, it's fucking McDonald's. If you're on a diet trying to lose weight you probably already know not to eat fucking McDonald's. It just forces them to change their menu and add shit no one wants. This is why their amazing French fries are no longer amazing. Some dumb ass vegetarians complained they didn't know their fries were cooked in lard, even though McDonald's never claimed otherwise, so they ended up changing that shit to vegetable oil, and now no one can enjoy their good fries all because some Hindu was a moron.

The average diet is 2000 calories a day. If you look on nay food label, its the baseline. The idea is that if you consume 2000 calories per day, you will not gain nor will you lose weight...this is with no working out though.

People are concerned with calories, which they should..but if you arent working out and dont want to be a fat ass...cut the carbs (bad carbs mostly) and sugar out (which is what bad carbs turn into if not burned off). Thats the real problem.

actually Lots of people tracking calories appreciate the consistency and the nutritional information that's readily available, and frequently turn to small fast food items if they're going to cave in and eat out. Places like McDonalds have world renowned consistency, you know that if that McDouble says 390 calories its going to be pretty much exactly that. Lots of places still don't show nutritional information so for convenience reasons fast food is a very popular and viable option among those who successfully diet and track calories honestly and correctly

Weight loss is as simple as calories in calories out. There's nothing else to it. The only single thing that matters is that you are consuming less calories than you are burning.

Yeah... depending on the dressing, full fat dressings are usually 180-220 calories per 2 Tbsp. Cheese is about 110 calories per 1oz, or ~1/4th cup. When you actually measure out the dressing I'd guess people are using 2-4 servings of dressing, and 2-4 servings of cheese. That's some serious calories for a sedentary person or someone eating multiple similar meals throughout the day, and especially both.

Food for thought;

How to lose weight and gain muscle — fast: new McMaster study - Latest Hamilton news - CBC Hamilton

To our surprise the amount of muscle lost, even in the low protein group, was negligible and they lost about 3.5 kg of fat. The high protein group was able to gain muscle mass. They gained about two pounds of muscle and lost about 10 pounds of body fat. So, an improved profile of fat loss and muscle gain in the high protein group.

Yeah I understand all that it's just the article is retarded citing 1200 and 1500 like that's supposed to be the recommended, normal daily value.
