First take is the worst sports show I've ever seen. Sucks though because they are probably the largest television show that regularly talks about boxing that isn't devoted to boxing and they don't know a damn thing about it

It's great to finally see Rios on TV like that and have both fighters promote this fight the way you are supposed to. Too bad Floyd and Canelo can't do the same.

He probably will look like another Margarito after this fight. He's quite a bit bigger than Pac but you gotta think that Roach will have Pac moving like he did against DLH for this fight. Having him engage in any type of firefight would be stupid.

I'm hoping Rios pulls it off but it won't happen. I just see rios being a lot slower and never experiencing someone with Manny's speed. This will be a better fight than Canelo vs mayweather for sures tho

Manny Pacquiao is not an elite talent anymore...he is just like Mike Tyson a short burst of incredible energy that once struck so fast and hard it negated having to box...that dynamic changed the way fighters had to go about their normal routines...of boxing. But once that energy wanes and boxing is now the paramount factor you get outcomes like Timothy Bradley and Juan Marquez 3 and 4. I bet you Rois comes in better shape than Pacquioa and if Rois makes it through the 6th round and moves into the 7th round with confidence he's gonna grind Pacquiao down with youth and conservation of energy. Cause if it's Pacquiao that has to move constantly to avoid a fire fight...at age 34 for his style of firecracker fighting, it's to hard for me to see it happening. I hope Pacquiao wins...because I do want to see him fight Floyd Mayweather but the road he has to travel is to much if he has to see Marquez or Bradley again...he'll never beat those fighters with a clear cut win. He has now become vulnerable enough to be susceptible to the sweet science of boxing...see Tyson vs Douglas/ Holyfield/ Lewis. Granted Rios isn't a boxer but if Pacquiao/ Roach's game plan isn't to walk right through Rios and KO him fast they have already lost the mental edge...Rois will gain confidence and warm up to Manny's punches. Rios will trust his conditioning and press the issue. When he raced Manny up the stairs in China he beat him causing Manny to say, "I have my work cut out for me Rios is already in good shape." If Manny wins it's gonna be controversial and Pacquiao's future will still be in doubt and he will not retire...Arum will match him up with an even softer touch...but people everywhere will see the writing on the wall...two more fights after Rios and it's over...they did it for the money and it will end sad.

its gonna take a while for manny to bounce back after that last humiliation he had. i know all boxers take ls but manny took it hard bc he was in middle of going to epic status
Mike Tyson was able to bounce back from his first professional loss and not just any loss, a knock out in which the odds were 42 to 1. Yes he took it hard but my thing has not been the knock out but his performance over the last couple of years/fights. So I don't think it's going to take awhile because it's a loss and it's not as if he hasn't been ko'd before (he was ko'd with a body punch at a lower weight.)

thing is the world is different now then it was when tyson took that first L that was in 1990. imo Manny is ruined he was destroyed by media so now he like a joke to everyone.

Two different animals.

He has now become vulnerable enough to be susceptible to the sweet science of boxing...see Tyson vs Douglas/ Holyfield/ Lewis.
The losses Tyson had against Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis didn't happen when Mike was a boxer and yes, Mike used to box.

I wouldn't say he is a joke to everyone. Yes the media made fun of him because he got knocked out but people still love him and he'll always have love in the sport because of his demeanor. The media can't ruin his boxing career. His boxing career can be ruined by himself or someone knocking his brains out his fuckin eye sockets. But the media? Nah, they ain't the ones cutting the checks, booking the fights, etc.

He can come back but at what price? I think if he loses to Rios he needs to retire. But he can still punch, he looks healthy, so we'll have to see what he does when he gets back in there, look at where he is mentally, and then you go from there. Now if anything, a boxer like Chad Dawson is the one people should be saying is not going to come back from his loss.

I don't know about that man. This is boxing, people lose, people get KOd. Only thing is he's getting up there in age. But Pacquiao is still a very popular fighter and people will always want to watch him fight.

I don't see how the world is much different other than social media and memes. mma dudes get KOd all the time, people have a quick chuckle, but they can bounce back no big deal.

Roberto Duran was ANNIHILATED by Tommy Hearns, at age 33, and he bounced back and had some awesome wins after that including a much bigger Iran Barkley who was coming off a KO over Tommy Hearns.

Of course, there is the danger of a fight like this that could be like Roy Jones. If we recall Jones was KTFO by Tarver, and Jones decided to fight a good, but limited pressure fighter in Glen Johnson. The universal thought was Jones would easily beat a lesser skilled opponent like Glen Johnson. But of course Johnson ended up beating his ass and knocked him the fuck out.

The difference here I think is Pacquiao took an entire year off between fights, whereas Jones fought Johnson about three months after getting KTFO by Tarver. I think Jones didn't allow proper time to heal from a severe concussion. Pacquiao I believe was smart resting a year.
