i work at a middle school in san diego as a tutor for 7th and 8th graders, who love 50 cent and g-unit and all that good stuff and think its weird that i dont like that shit and listen to music theyve never heard of. however, today they were asking me what "zion i" on my shirt was and when i told them a rap group from oakland, some kid goes "are they underground rappers like mac dre?" when that fool said mac dre, every kid in the class got all excited talking about how mac dre is tight this and that. i was shocked all these kids knew who mac dre is and learned that they play thizz dance on the hip hop radio stations down here all the time.

so it got me thinking. how far can mac dres current popularity be taken? could thizz ent release a mac dre music video or something? have a thizz dance video playing on trl and shit. but since hes dead i dont know if that could or would be done. if youve attracted the 12-14 year olds, thats basically the solidifier that youre ready to go big. and thats really all it would take to bring the bay back. dont get me wrong though, im not suggesting it be done. just learning all these kids who buy the gunit cds are now offical mac dre fans got me wondering

Blazin 98.9 the hip hop station down here played a 30 minute Mac Dre mix on Nov. 1 and people were really feelin that shit! People kept callin in requesting more Mac Dre and he got played throughout the show. Then the last few days Ive been periodically tuning in and hearing Mac Dre. People down here in SD have been showin much love and everyday hes been getting more and more popular.

Im only 21 but its tight bein able to walk up to kids in Highschool and sayin "Do I know who Mac Dre is? SON, Ive been listening to Mac Dre since before you were born!"

just an update related to this thread i wanted to comment on. its getting a little ridiculous out here (at least with the middle school kids i work with).

yesterday some kid was standing at the back of the class and hes talking on his cell phone, which i though was ridiculous enough from an eight grader in class, but i notice hes reciting the lyrics to the first verse of thizz dance. he did it like 2 times and when he hung up i asked him what he was doing and he told me his sister wanted to know the lyrics to the song?!

and today im walking around a class of seventh graders and they all had these little posters describing themselves and theri lives. some kid had nothing but some little facts about himself, but took up most of the page with the words "mac dre." i was like "thats all you can say about yourself - mac dre?" he just told me he really likes dre. i thought i guess thats cool, but what i thought was funny was that he asked me if i know what md looks like, cause he's never seen him

i guess its a good thing dre is getting love all over, but i dont know how good it is when these same kids that are all about the mac dre bandwagon are the same kids that ask me if i like laffy taffy or pretty ricky? and they think im a freak cause i never heard of them

What Carl is sayin is the truth. I was drivin home last night listenin to the Hip Hop Station in San Diego - Jammin Z90 (90.3), and that song Chris Brown "Run It" came on. All of the sudden I hear Thizz Dance gettin mixed in... They edited it themselves cause it sounded horrible, but it blew my mind - I would think it was just Blazin 98.9. I find it very dissapointing that Dre is gettin love this late. New fans jumpin on the bandwagon are gonna be like "Damn, he's got HOW MANY albums out?!" when they find out who Dre REALLY is. Sad but I guess it's better late than never.
