yeah, of course i would sell more.
it's a controversial issue no matter how
you look at it. i'm resistent to candy-coat
my reality here but to others, in their reality,
some of it is offensive. i might sell more too
if i didn't use the word "bitch," we all know
how much of the buying public is female.
for those who can recognize the context
within which "nigga" is used, it's all good.
for those who don't, i can't judge 'em, shit
i can understand people's offense at the
word. there's a whole experience out
there in black america that us white folks
can't fully understand.
in my city the word is common & thrown
around with recklessness. neighborhoods
got asain, white, black, hispanic & russian
all in the same spot. there's a higher degree
of tolerance here than in most other places.
you won't see as many inter-racial couples
& bi-racial children (mine's 1 of 'em) as
you would in sac.
deos that mean i should keep my perspective
strictly from these streets, or should i expand?
i really don't know.... the rest of the world
tends to look at sacramento like we backwards
but i can tell you folks from the 916 are proud
to be from here. i love my city. & my music
reflects that.
so...it's a double-edged sword. i'm damned if
i do, damned if i don't. there's so much
commercialism in hip-hop, do i want to
follow suit? naw, but do i want to pay
the bills? do i let the world & the industry
determine what my music is? some of the
realest niggas i know don't flinch at the
word or the surface tension in it's use.
the real issue isn't the words, it's in the
use of them. & disagreements about the
word "nigga" will be around forever.
