Damn, Jones was one of my favorite players on the team.

Heres what John Clayton had to say about the trade:

Bears moving up: If you are trying to figure out the Thomas Jones trade, it's pretty simple. The Bears moved up 26 spots in the second round, getting a Jets pick at No. 37. That's a prime position to get a borderline rookie starter or a quality prospect. Why would the Bears have to give up a second-round pick and Jones to get a second-round pick? The answer is simple. The market for veteran running backs is at best a third-round pick. The Bears wanted to get a second-round pick alone but they couldn't. If you look at the draft value charts, the Bears gave up 280 points. That's the equivalent of one of the final choices of the second round or a top choice in the third round. In other words, they got the best value possible for a 28-year-old running back.

I still don't see how this is a good deal. A 2nd rounder is no guarantee they will be anything in the NFL...
Same could be said for the No.1 pick overall, as we have seen in the past. The fact is, the draft is just one big crap shoot, but teams feel if tey move up they "have a better chance".

The REAL ROY last year was drafted in the 7th round out of HOFSTRA.

And you have to admit, Jones has an outstanding line. He can break taclkes, yes, but his lateral speed is not there. Jones thrives in a running system. He woulda been awesome in Denver.

I hear you.

They really are putting a lot of faith in Benson. He's good, but the question is how healthy can he be? He's been injured three times in two years, including the superbowl. They have another pretty good RB, Adrian Peterson, but still, Jones was the entire offense two seasons ago and the entire offense when Grossman was playing shitty last season. He's a reliable back, Benson on the other hand still hasn't proven himself.

Tight play by Jones against the Saints in Playoffs

The Lance Briggs situation is a combo of him having green eyes and a snake as an agent. Come training camp don't be surprised if Lance Briggs is suited up and ready to play for da bears. But if they do trade him they better get something better than a 2nd round pick

Between Perterson and McKie, they have 18 rushign attempts in al of last season.

I have to be honest, resting insurance of a running game on 3 unproven backs is highly risky. The Bears have been buuilt around running for over 3 decades, and it almost seems that the FO is thinking that they are gonna all but abondon the running game due to Grossmans "gun slinger" attitude. That, is VERY risky.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what the draft brings. Who knows, maybe they will trade all the way up and snag the another RB like Lynch, although its highly unlikely they can trade up that high. There is always a hidden gem in the later rounds though.

I cant wait til the draft!

Peterson is a reliable back up. He had a 130 yard rushing game two seasons ago (76 ATT - 391 Yards - 5.1 ypc, that season) but he is also a key player on special teams (both on returns and on defense) so I'm not sure if they would have to make him strictly a back up. I'm not worried that he couldn't carry some of the work load, I'm just worried that Benson can remain healthy (Peterson is a good back up, but not good enough to start).

I don't think they are planning on abandoning the run, they just are putting all their stock in Benson, which is very risky.

One thing da bears have been good in recent years is the draft. Since 2002, Angelo has made some great selections - Devin Hester, Alex Brown, Charles Tillman, Lance Briggs, Bernard Berrian, Nathan Vasher, Cedric Benson, Rex Grossman, Daniel Manning, Mark Anderson, Tommie Harris, Tank Johnson.

I cant wait til the draft!
I can't wait to regular season!!!

^^ this is true lol nothin against u niners fans but seems like when someone is a free agent with talent u guys say that the niners need them and shit.
It's because this year, unlike years past, we actually can get them because the Niners have cap room. The only reason you don't see raider fans doing the same is because those clowns have no money to spend.

And don't forget there are more Niner fans in here than any other team except maybe the raiders because the "siccness" is a Northern Cali thing, so it's obviously gonna be flooded with Northern Cali heads who are fans of Northern Cali teams. And the more fans of a team you have in one place, the more you will hear about that team. Get used to it.

Another reason we 49er fans have been sayin we need every player that's come onto the FA market this year is because they have all been positions of need. The whole Joey Porter, Lance Briggs, came from the Adalius Thomas deal. All year we were led to believe in free agency we would be signing a big time LB and big time CB. So when we lost out on Adalius Thomas, we all naturally look to the next best LB avaliable. Before this off season, not to many 9er fans were always saying OH WE SHOULD GET HIM, OH WE NEED HIM HELLA BAD. Most the 9ers fans on here and pretty knowledgable, and most the FA acciquisitions we've been suggesting have been highly realistic to get done. Now if Michael Vick went on the market or Larry Johnson and we said OH WE SHOULD GET THEM, then I could feel what you are sayin. But like I said for the most part most the FA suggestions been reasonable. I was expecting a bigger name then Banta-Cain at LB, but I have a feeling he can flourish on our team, so I'm excited. We still need another WR though, cuze Ashley Leile isn't an adequete replacement for Bryant, even though I'm sure he'll make a couple nice plays.
