i would say chris johnson from tennesse and adrian peterson are in leagues of their own. easily the top 2 running backs in the nfl right now.

i would then say michael turner, frank gore and m. jones-drew round out top 5.

forte, barber, d. williams steven jackson, and ced. benson go 6 -10. with fred jackson, ronnie brown, and leon washington getting an honorable mentions.

AP is in a class all his own.

LT, that is laughable at this point in his career.

I always liked gore even though he is a niner. he has a heart of a warrior.
he should really have an outstanding year. he is off to a great start.

dutch broke down the rest.

Why are you fools trying to bring up week 1's numbers to discredit Gore? Every RB has bad games. ALL OF THEM. Adrian Peterson once rushed for 3 yards on 15 fuckin carries. Should he be stripped of his title as the best in the league because of that game?

And if you fools bothered to watch the game you'd know that NO RB IN THE LEAGUE would have done well that day behind our offensive line. That goes for Adrian Peterson too. There's just no way you're gonna have a good day when D-Linemen are in your face as soon as you touch the ball. The line created NO LANES WHATSOEVER. If a line is going to play that poorly, no RB in the history of the NFL would have had success behind it.

Barry Sanders was always known for having an awful offensive line, but our line made his lines look like all-pro lineups that day. Luckily Mike Singletary knows how to whip players into shape, which he clearly did to our O-Line after that game.

Maybe Rathman has something to do with Gore's success. The 9ers' Oline isn't as bad as you think. There are some versatile linemen for the 9ers, and that is always a plus to have. But Gore is definitly a top RB in the league. Him and AP to me are the only two elite rb's in the league right now.

Gore had been having success long before Rathman arrived this year.

You're really gonna come in here and tell Niner fans that our line is not as bad as we think? Joe Staley is very good in pass protection, not so much in run blocking. Eric Heitman gets a lot of love as a Center and he's pretty good so it is deserving. Chilo Rachal is a great run blocker, not so great in pass protection. Adam Snyder and David Baas are both below average in both categories.

Even with all that said, we could have 5 pro bowl linemen and if they didn't create any holes for our RBs then they would be considered a shitty line. Our line has not created SHIT for Gore the last 2 years.

So yes, it is as bad as we think. They're starting to get better, but they are definitely in the bottom half of the league and every other top RB in the league has a far superior line in front of him.
