but he was fired by NPR for these comments.

well a comment like that goes completely against the npr ethos

at the same time firing a guy for stating his views kind goes against it too

to npr's defense, who tries to be as fair as possible with their news delivery (though many would say they lean pretty left), after uncle juans comment, his news analysis will now come off as bias if it has anything to do with muslims

but personally i dont think npr should fire him, but rather embrace comments like that to start dialogue and bring in views that agree and disagree with him.

ill be honest, when i see muslim (even a sikh) in an airport, i immediately think about terrorist shit...but mostly in a comedic way, and don't ever actually fear they're going to do anything

i dont agree with him, but understand that his view is a common human view, and he should be able to express it....and others should be able to let him know how dumb he sounds....but firing him is essentially censoring a common view...no matter how dumb it is that's no bueno

Instead of firing him though, I'd rather NPR delve into why he's blindly associating Muslims with being in danger. I agree that it's a common belief right now and prejudice isn't going to change by firing people..

true, thats basically what i was saying about why i understand npr's reason for firing him.

but juanito was not a reporter..he was technically a news analyst for npr. and im a big fan of npr, but its not always just straight heres whats happening coverage (cspan style).. they have plenty of journalism and what could be considered lightweight punditry throughout the day
