Imagine being a wrestler, someone like Cena and having management come up to you and say, yeah, we're going to have you do a side gimmick and call you Juan Cena, or have a character like Eugene. You know in their head that they're thinking "you must be fucking joking (hopefully). I wonder how much say the wrestler has in his stage name and what not. I remember watching Beyond The Mat with the Droz segment and Vince saying since he could throw up on command, that "Droz" fit but I'm curious as to how te overall process. goes.

Cena doesnt care. He is probably the top payed talent so Im sure if they told him to dress up like a school girl he would do it with a smile on his face.

It depends on the performer and the writer. Guys like HBK & Undertaker can look at a script and then wipe their ass with it and do something else without consequence. Guys like Santino & Drew Macintyer & Evan Bourne they have to follow the script or risk pink slip. John Cena could probably follow into the first group now, but hes been labeled as a company man so he'll do just about anything they ask with rewards of huge zeros in his check.

From what I understand we're going to get to meet Mr. Juan Cena tonight on Raw.

Anybody else find this gimmick racist? What if he came out in blackface and called himself Jerome Cena?

I wouldn't call it "racist" but I agree with what you're saying. But Juan is John in Spanish, so I get why they did that.

On a side note my nephew is in Spain right now and he took pics of graffiti that said "Juan 3:16" a couple of months ago.

Isn't "Jerome", "John" in Ebonics?

Anyway I'm finding it racist because if you just put a fucking Lucha mask on a guy and call him "Juan" he's suddenly Mexican.

Not that I know of. I've heard of "Joe Nathan" being a take on "Johnathan" but I've never heard of "Jerome" being "John" in so-called ebonics.

Anyway I'm finding it racist because if you just put a fucking Lucha mask on a guy and call him "Juan" he's suddenly Mexican.
I'm not finding it to be racism because it doesn't fit the definition of racism. Can it be discriminatory, predjudice, bias, a stereotype or offensive? Yes. Racism/racist? No. And I say this because I'm looking at racism/racist as the belief that group A is superior to group B and has the right to control or rule them.
