yall really don't see anything wrong with making money off a project that you had no type of input in whatsoever?
its called retail player.......

excluding any kind of resturaunt, damn near every place you purchase something at will have had no type of input or say-so into the production of what your buying.........they just sell it.....

that obviously excludes places like The Gap, Vans Store, Abercromnie, Disney Store, shit like that..........

and JT aint no different.........He never said he wasnt a busness man......

but honestly, yall really don't see anything wrong with making money off a project that you had no type of input in whatsoever? Maybe he did I don't know.......Get it how u live is the name of the game i guess.

Why do you think that a label or distributor or anybody that does everything on the business end of a situation is not supposed to eat? I deal with artist all the time that do absolutely nothing but make the music. Why should they have all the input and final say of what gets put out or sold when they bring nothing to the table besides recording the music? You think people are in this to put up all the money, coordinate all the moves, put in all the WORK and then let the artist who's done the least make all the decisions and money? Negative..

I feel where JT comin from on the business end. He gotta get his cuz aint none of these artist gon give him shit.

On a side note a lot of these artist lack any business savvy and are way lazier than you think. Gotta hold they hand they thru a lot of shit..

I agree with part of this. Yes, there are many sides to the music business and many people involved with RELEASING a record.

With that said, the artists do THE MOST in any situation because they make the records that allow everybody else to eat. Without the artist, these businessmen would be washing cars or doing some other shit.

Artists make the record (countless hours in the studio, late nights, etc.), tour for months on end to promote the record, miss their families, birthdays, and holidays. And how are they repaid? They get a PORTION of their publishing (If they are lucky), a small percentage of record sales, and all the stress of making a hit record so their contract isn't ripped up.

Businessmen write the checks and then collect heavily after the fact.

No, many artists are not business savvy...but they are the creative minds that put more money in the pockets of others than they do their own. They do a lot more, and miss a lot more, than anybody else involved who sits in an office and gets to go home every night.

Artists, producers, and managers should be the ones getting the big checks.

Multiple props on that! A lot of artist jump on bandwagons and expect the label to make them. Again, they have the 2Pac syndrome (comparing when Pac signed to Death Row.) Yes, Death Row was the hottest label at the time, but Pac was a talented person. Going to prison didn't make that man sell millions. His talent did & that's where a lot of artist fail. They all believe that they get sprinkled with some kind of magical dust if they are rappers & get incarcerated.

A lot of them believe that the label name alone will sell, but fail to see that it should be themselves they're selling (putting out there), before the label name.

We been believing these stories since 1996 and since then, there have only been a handful of artist that have had the same success (in volume) as Pac. And that is more than enough proof that it all boils down to talent.

Labels run like your regular j.o.b or some of these professional sports players. If you are of value to them (the money maker) they'll eat off the palm of your hand. And money will not be an issue to them to put behind you.

Unfortunately, that is rare in these times.

Mr Kee the Homie but we never discussed any deals. Messy got a nice following and he stay active. It's good he took his hustle further than the bay hopefully he cam find a break thru from where he is. The bay has barriers up that make the rap game out here like a third world country. Not even enough retail stores to really push your product. We had 100 stores we could drop CDs off to for direct money. Now you might have 20. City hall is a joke.....8 months until you get paid???? WTF! Is that? You'll be out of business by then.
To press sell and collect the money from 1000 CDs on your own and also have a digital account is the new push for up and coming artist. Fuck boy contracts are for the birds. Selling your album 12 songs for $5000 to $10,000 is not bad if you made it yourself low overhead. Who ever bought will have to push it to make there money back. Mean while you take those funds and make a better album. If you have money to live and operate city hall might not Be bad but the terms he offers are Fuck boy terms. Major label deals only come when alot of records sold or alot of airplay. Other than that option 1 is the best.
