If you don't mind the drive, I suggest you check out the Santa Rosa Junior College. They have plenty of certificate programs that will get you paid interships/jobs, and they're also one of the best community colleges in the country. Plus they have a scholarship available to everyone which pays for pretty much all your fees.

THEY START THEM AT 15 AND CHANGE WITH 2 DOLLAR RAISES EVERY SIX MONTHS UNTIL YOU GET YOUR ELECTRICIAN CERTIFICATION. THEN YOU TOP OUT AT AROUND 35.....

take the United States Postal Service test and get you a post office job or a mail carrier job, about 5 years ago a postal carrier made $16.72/hour, no tellin' what it is now. If you score above 70 on the test your chance of landing a job is increased.

The quickest way is to learn a trade like Welding, Plumbing, Electrician, etc. They have 1 or 2 year programs that will get you a certificate and get you in the field immediately.

When I got out the joint back in 03' I had to find something fast for the same reasons you mentioned and plus I have kids. I took a nine month Welding course at a local community college and got a one year certificate. I was working immediately later that week after I finished school. When I got hired on as a welder in 2004 I was making approx. $21 hr. I now am making approx. 30 hr. and don't hardly even weld anymore, but run the Robot. If you don't like hard work, then I recommend that you go learn Machining.
